As of tomorrow, we are going to start taxing money that Ems earns. LOL :p
I am so excited!!!!!! Now she will be able to actually understand where some of our money goes. Although she pays taxes on her purchases, she really doesn't grasp what taxes is.

Anyways, we started an indepth unit of the colonial era. She has to do research on some of the people, a book report on a historical fiction book she is reading, and there are a lot of hands on projects. One of the lessons calls for the student to be taxed on fake money. So I decided to take it further. I am going to set aside $100 of real money. I need to break it down so it lasts through the whole unit. She will have to earn the money. She has to go above and beyond chores to earn the money.

    BUT!!!! :p

If she has to use the toilet, she has to pay taxes on the gallon of water. LOL So basically she has to pay per flush.
She has to pay taxes on the value of each meal. She has to pay taxes for the gas to go to her friends house and so forth. Since the unit deals with the excessive taxes that were placed upon the people, I am also adding taxes to extras like each tea bag, clothing, etc...

My problem is I am having trouble of thinking of what extras to tax her on. I definitely plan to tax her on her taxes. LOL
So will you all please give me some extra ideas as to what I can tax Ems on. I really want her to feel the pinch and to experience, or at least get a real idea what the people went through and what we tax payers go through today.

When we are done I am going to let her keep the money she earned but not the money she was taxed on. Handsome and I will keep it! LOL
We are also going to make a tax chart so she can visually see where the money is going. We have a jar for her earnings and a box that has Taxes written on the lid.

So any ideas to help me tax my daughter?!!!!!
    Please and thank you!:D

    This is soooo fun!LOL

What a great idea! I'm stealing that one for next school year with my kids. You could randomly raise all the taxes and tell her it is because the good people of England voted to fix some roads and decided she should pay for it.

Every pen/pencil she uses and notebook? Art supplies? Tell her that England was involved in a war, and they need her to pay for it.

That's so fun! Except, you realize she may stop flushing, right? LOL.

    Really, that's an excellent idea!

    LOL!!!!
She better not stop flushing! I will have to come up with a Non-Flush Tax Penalty. ;)
Plus she will be taxed on the Comet to clean the ring in the toilet.

What is funny is that Ems thinks she is going to earn the whole $100. She doesn't realize, yet, that after we have so much money in the tax box, we are going to pay her from the taxes and then tax her on those earnings as well. In the long run, she will never see the full hundred. LOL!

Handsome said we really need to act like government officials and take her tax money and buy ourselves something when the unit is all done and show Ems what she bought us! :p
