    Hi All,

I'm just wondering if any of you volunteer in your local community such as on a board that has evening meetings. While you are at these evening meetings who watches your children? My husband brought to my attention this morning that our city is looking for volunteer board members for a few different committees. One sounds somewhat interesting to me, yet I would have to hire a babysitter seeing as my hubby already has volunteer committee meetings on those same nights. The first questions in my mind when thinking of joining something is where would my kids go? and who would watch them? Anyone else feel the same?

Last week I found information about a different group that I might join (it's more of a county wide thing than a city function). This particular group has meetings on Thursday nights once a month and that would work well with hubby's schedule. I might do that instead.

I do a few of the boards at our charter school but either I take my son with me or my older kids watch their younger brother for me while I'm in meetings. And once a month on Friday nights I go to a crop night and my dh is with my kids then. There have been times I've had to take my son to a meeting with me and he behaves pretty well.

    Thank you!
I think I'm going to have to join the county committee that meets on Thursday evenings, so that I don't have find a babysitter every time. I'm hoping my dh will be able to stay with the kids.

or you could babysit for another friends kids during the week and while you are at the meeting she watches yours.

That's a good idea, Kris. I appreciate the idea. Knowing myself like I do I won't find a friend that will do that with me or I'm too much of a chicken to bring it up. My sister keeps saying that she would like to do a babysitting swap with me and we have done it before, but I have a hard time doing it. It some how ends up with hurt feelings for one or both of us....long story....

How old are your children? I attend staff meetings at church on Tuesday AM's. This has been going on for three years now (four...?) Anyway, I sit down with my kids beforehand, give them a list of schoolwork, and they have a "study hall" (for lack of a better term!) in one of the Sunday School rooms. They know where to find me if need be. They would have been about 5, 8, and 10 when I started with this. The interesting thing was another woman came onto staff last year. She is also a homeschooler, and the first meeting, she kept her children at home. They were 15 and 12, I think. So she comes to the first meeting, found my kids in the Sunday School room doing school, and has brought them with her since! It works out well for me. I also realize this isn't always an option. It depends on the age of your children, what kind of meeting, where, and also their ability to work independently.
