Welcome, LeeAnn! I'm Jackie, a "veteran" whose children have never done anything but HS. They're 6, 9, and 11.

Hi Leeann welcome to the homeschool spot. It's a wonderful place to come and get neat ideas. I am on my fifth year homeschooling my two dd's whom are 11 and 13 same age as yours. Maybe they will have to become pen pals.

    new kind of

    hi,
i'm moesje, and i have two daughters, one 13 and the other will be 15 next month. the youngest went to private school from K-7 and the oldest from end of 1st through 8. our school closed end of last year, so we put them in public school in Nov 04 for various reasons. well, the oldest who is extremely outoing and loving has struggled for 16 months. good grades, but she's getting tired of the yelling teachers, the students who harrass her, and the rest of the staff who do nothing about it all. so, we've told her if she gets her grades up to 3.0 by this june she can homeschool. she is so excited about school for the first time in months.

the youngest daughter has made it clear she wishes to stay in public school. we'll support it as long as she doesn't have similar problems.

in some ways i feel like we're "running" from the problems, but when we get no help from those who are supposed to help and fix, and then to watch our daughter who loves school turn around and just hate the environment.

i worked at the private school for about 3 years assisting and such, and home schooled them a year or so, so she's very aware of my skills and style, and to have this outspoken teenager say 'you're nicer than they are', i think i'll run, as fast as i can, as soon as i can and get her interested in school again.

thanks, i really needed to vent. we are christian, and have used mostly ACE and a year of AOP, i am looking for to expand my knowledge of curriculum available for home schooling.

Whew, what a horrible day! Today was report card day and meeting the teachers again. My oldest daughter has had such a horrible year . . . too much to go into. My husband and I made the decision to pull her out, test and home school her for the rest of this year. Literally, thank God that decision is made!

Moesje, I've been told again and again that the kids pulled home often take a year of "deschooling". That first year can be very rough, but worth it. I've heard comments like "We didn't learn much, but I got my kid back!" So you may have to go rather easy the rest of this year. Good luck to you and her!

Thank you. She has been in private school and home school for the first 7 years and only this last 2 years has she been in public, so I'm praying she won't have much deschooling to do!
