OK... this high school thing has really been on my mind this week! I've found a sample transcript and filled in what I *think* ds will be taking next year and those classes that are required for the rest of hs. Here's what I have for 9th:

    Algebra 1 (Teaching Textbooks)
Spanish 1 (possibly SOS, any AFFORDABLE suggestions?)
    American History (Notgrass)
    Literature (Notgrass)
Bible (Notgrass)-elective, it's included with Notgrass history
PE (swims for 1 hour 2-3 times per week)
    Health (suggestions?)
    Biology 1 (Apologia)

    Am I missing something?
Do you record # of hours or just give them credit if they finish the course? I saw somewhere that 120 hours is 1 credit.

Unless your state asks you to record hours I would just count the credits. NYS calls 108 hours of instruction 1 unit (credit). I would just give them a credit for the course (as long as they complete it )

For Health we used Abeka but I think if I was to do it again I would use SOS or Lifepac. Sd also did a cpr class as part of health.

We give one credit for academic classes and 1/2 credit for electives. You don't really need "curriculum" for all of your electives. For instance, my son has learned welding during the summers with his grandpa, so that is call shop class. Helping mom in the kitchen with cooking and meal planning is called home economics.

Unless the state requirements are very rigid, you don't need to parrot what the public school requires. We checked out the state requirements for college admissions and scholarship money and tried to stick to those guidelines for core curriculum.

The colleges we applied to were very eager to accept our homeschooling transcript. I kept records, but didn't put together a transcript until we started applying to colleges. Don't let it bog you down and steal your joy. The high school years were my favorite homeschooling years. Enjoy!

Please explain more...I am having serious anxiety over high school. I know I don't need to worry about colleges accepting my homemade transcript and all..but I cannot help but worry over..what if they don't go to college? And...what if we don't do enough, do too much?

Your schedule looks good. We only did health for half a year. My daughter used Totally Healthy Teen or something like that. It was a bit much. I am not planning on doing that with my son.

If you go to hslda.org (Homeschool Legal Defense) and go to "About Homeschooling" and then click on "Homeschooling Thru High School" and now look under "Before High School", you will find a lot of information that should help.

There are several books that give you a guide of what to cover. Also a book by Barbara Shelton called Senior High: A Home-Designed Form+U+la will answer some of your questions with humor. Her book also includes sample transcripts.

When we used a textbook as in Apologia science or math, credit was given when the book was completed. My child never finished the work before the alloted time required for a credit. If she finished a year course in half a year, she would only get half a credit. If she finished a little early, she would receive full credit.

We kept track of hours when the course was a unit study or something along those lines.

Keeping track of high school credits stressed me out a lot. Hang in there. You can do it!

Alpha Omega (LifePac and SOS) has a high school health elective (1/2 credit).

The rest looks great to me and although my oldest is 11, I'm already pondering those high school years.

Health will only be 1/2 credit though we will probably spread it over the year without doing it every day.
