This is an odd question, I know, but I was wondering if anyone is married to a plumber that would mind helping me out with some questions. My kitchen sink has leaked for quite a while (from the faucet as if it's not turned off good) and now the bathtub has started to do the same (so much that if I stop the tub up, it could fill in about 1 hour). This hiked up our power bill something crazy because it's the hot water that does it. We rent and I would contact the landlord but she sent her handy man (who's not to handy, sad to say) in the summer and he replaced the water heater, then replaced something in the faucet. That still didn't help and then his big idea was that the pressure was too high so he turned it down....it was so low that it wouldn't even run the dish washer and it took an hour to fill up the tub! So we had to turn it back up...oh and that did stop it from running...but I think only because there wasn't enough water coming out! Anyhow....I know if we contact her, she'll just send him out again and he doesn't really know what he's doing. So if I could fix whatever the problem is for not too much $$ then I would be glad to. So wondering if anyone is married to a plumber who would mind to pass on a few messages to him to help walk me through some things to try to get this fixed. Thanks in advance!
Not a plumber or have one here, but had the same problem. Now he did do the right thing it is just he probably just used the wrong seals. You can go to your local hardware store and get a faucet seal kit. They are like $3- $5, turn off you water take apart the facet handles right there at the wall on the bath tub, pull out the old one and put in the new one. Also to avoid this in the future don't turn so hard to turn off the water. This is what happened at out house, and yes we ended up using the wrong seal at first and had to do it all over again, but it is alright now. Good luck
yep agree with Joanna, but I would contact the owner let them know its leaking again, what ever they did last time didn't work.
Thanks everyone, I will give that a try. I have no idea what I'm doing, (but I'm always up for trying something new) so it should be interesting, lol!
one state we lived in had a law that if your landlord wouldn't fix something and you had to do it yourself, you could subtract the cost of the project from your rent the next month. I'm sure faucet seals won't cost much, but it might make a good point to your landlord... Good luck with the fix!! Youtube probably has lots of howto videos!! it has everything!!
