I wanted to know so maybe our kids could be friends and chat on there! Alexis loves it & even Jake (who wants a 'real' facebook account once he turns 13) likes this site. Heck even one of my fd's likes it!
http://www.fbfkids.com It's not "official" - but I like that it's monitored - and they have a live chat room and such.
I signed up my dd10 because a friend requested it. Once I was on there, I realized the live chat is open to absolutely everyone. The first thing I saw was a (supposedly) young boy posting "I need a girl" and a (supposedly) young girl responding "I need a boy". They posted just a few times to "hook up". A moderator did join in and remind them that they were being watched, but still, I was not at all comfortable with this open chatroom arrangement. I'm deleting her account.
facebook? what is facebook? Just kidding, I just never been interested in it and my son does not show any interest. So, I think it will remain mysterious for me for a while-or maybe forever.
I have really liked their response time to inappropriate behavior. I monitor it as well - but I had a complaint about a kid and messages he sent to my daughter and he was booted within 5 minutes and they blocked out his IP "block" so he couldn't sign right back on AND notified the parents. They weren't even really BAD messages - just annoying and odd. Since then they have had a blast with it all together and they all "watch" out for each other in the chat.
Mine aren't really aware of online stuff yet, beyond emailing their grandparents, so I'm trying to hold off on this for a while, lol. I'm sure the day will come when that is all I hear!
That gummy bear song! LOL..it is on the front page. I have been hearing it for about a year now I think. My neices started it, playing it for the kids. Sometimes, you cannot get it out of your head.
mine are still young and my oldest isn't all thrilled online stuff. It's a bear just to have her email her friends, she does better snail mail.
I let my ds sign up for a regular fb account, but after very inapproriate messages were posted from youth group kids, we deleted his account. It just wasn't worth it.
I didn't know this existed. I may have to check it out. DD has been asking me for a while to have her own "web page." I will watch it for a while and see what I think. If I let her sign up, I will let you know. I'm sure she will want friends on there.
I PM'd you Alexis isn't on right now - she bought "spin art" & "where's waldo" for her iPod touch and so is excited about those things (I am tired of watching the spin art thing spin - makes me dizzy!!) Tomorrow will most likely be a snow day so she'll be on
Our family has had to move several times and Facebook has allowed our family to reconnect with old friends. My 15 and 17 yr olds have accounts. My 11 year olds are happy reading the posts with Mom on her account.
