First I just want to say how amazed I am by all of the thoughtful comments I see from the members of this board. There is so much support here and I think that's a really great thing..

Okay, I am supposed to email my educational facilitator tomorrow to inform her we are filing our psa and will be leaving the charter school. While they have been kind and supportive, the public school curriculum was not working for my first grader. My Kinder and fifth grader were doing well but we wanted to find a sound christian curriculum and think after two weeks of working with new material we have found just that. It makes my day so much smoother I don't ever want to go back..so what do I say? Should I expect her to try to persuade me to change my mind? Is there anything I should know legally about dropping the charter after I signed up for this semester? I'm sure it will be fine just really nervous and I'm not sure what to say...thanks so much :)

I don't have any advice since I have never had to deal with that sort of thing, but wanted to wish you luck. How exciting that you are finding something that works better for your family.

I've never used anything like that so I'm not sure what you can expect but stick to your guns and do what's right for your family. Please keep us updated on how it's going. You've always got help right here!

Breaking up is always hard to do! I understand that since they've been helpful, you don't want them to feel like you're rejecting them personally. I actually think they'll be fine with it. After all, they're an at-home public option, so they do place some trust in the parents to oversee and facilitate their own children's education. Just stay positive and complimentary in your e-mail and then tell her that this move just fits the needs of your family better right now. How can anyone argue with that?

First I have to say that I can understand how you are feeling. I avoid all confrontation of any sort it just makes me uncomfortable. I have never used a Charter school but one time I had to pull my oldest son out of a private school. He was only going half a day and the first year was great then the next year started off rough he had a bully in one class so they had to switch him to another class and the teachers were great but I did not feel he was being challanged enough. I know he was only four at the time but I thought he could be doing alot more. I spoke with the person that handled admissions. They brought me into the office to show me their curriculum for the next year and part of me wanted to stay just to people please but then I woke up. When I left the office that day I told the lady that I would think on it and I did and I turned in my withdrawl forms the following Monday. I had to make the best choice for my son we pulled him out and placed him at a different private school. Long story short I still decided to homeschool because I feel its the best thing for my son in the long run. I don't want him exposed to certain things, peer pressure etc. etc.
So my advice is to follow the still voice within and you will never go wrong. Good luck keep us posted.

I have done this twice already and both went smoothly. I simply told them that I had found another program that I feel will work better for my children and for my family. I thanked them for all they had done for us and they wished me well. Good luck. I'm sure they will understand.

Let us know how it goes!!! As to whether they will try to "persuade" you or not, it depends on the individual you speak with.

I'm glad you found what works for you and your family. By now the dirty deed has most likely been done, and you are on your own. You will do fine, and don't worry about offending them, you are not their only family/student(s).

    went well:)

Our EF was very kind and understanding - she did reschedule our exit appt for next week but said it should only take 15 minutes and the kids didnt need to be there with me. So lots of worry for no reason:) now to relax a little...on a side note hubby found two co-workers in his department that home schooled..all their kids are in college now but fun none the less.

Great! Glad it is going smooth, I didn't expect it not to, but you never know I guess.

My hubby works with a few that have homeschooled in the past.. most of their kids are grown as well.
