I'm just curious to see how strange my family is! We have a tv w/dvd/vcr players but when the digital switch went into effect we never got around to getting a converter box, so no more broadcast television! At first it was quite strange, but I like it now.

We seem to get more done and our family does more 'family" things together in the evening, instead of just sitting. We have though, bought quite a few dvd sets, especially of older shows, like Andy Griffith and Hogan's heroes. And I like the fact that there are no more offensive, suggestive commercials coming into the house.

We have TV, but only watch the DVDs of shows we approve of or use it for specific programs showing on Animal Planet, the History channel, etc. The kids are not allowed to turn it on and watch without permission. We usually average less than an hour per day, but lately have been watching a lot of the Olympics.

We are a tv family, I even have one in the kitchen. We went with the biggest satilite package because of the educational channels it has, and we are regular visitors to the Redbox to suppliment our Netflix subscription ;)

We have one, but no cable, etc. I do try to control it. The challenge now is for us to go from three computers to just one!

We have 3 TVs. One is in the Master bedroom, so dh & I can curl up together & watch a movie. One is in the living room. The other (the kids' TV) is in the dining room. The kids' TV rarely gets used. If dh & I are watching something in the living room, we might let the kids watch something in the dining room. Other that that, the kids' TV is used for the occasional DVD game or educational DVD for one while the other is working in the living room or on the computer.
The one in our room gets used if dh & I want to watch a movie late at night or if someone is sick, and we use the VCR in there to record our shows if we're going to miss them.
The one in the living room gets used most. We do have Cable, but a very tiny package. We pay $8 a month for the smallest package they have. We only got it because our local channels weren't coming in clear. We got clear local channels and a few extra (including 2 PBS stations), a total of 16 channels. Last year, we had to replace our TV & ended up getting a digital TV. So, we now also get some digital channels (for free). However, the digital channels we get change sometimes (new ones show up, some disappear, some move to different channels). Earlier this week, one of our digital channels disappeared, so I had to scan to try to find it again. That scan gave us a whole bunch of new channels that we didn't have before - Animal Planet, History, Bio, Discovery, Food Network - just to name a few. I have no idea how long they will last, though & they could be gone by the weekend (it wouldn't be the first time).
The TV in the living room is almost always on. I can't deal with silence, so the TV is on or I'm playing music through the computer the entire time I'm awake (which is about 20-21 hrs a day) for background noise.

You know, I'd LOVE to have a TV in our room to curl up to! BUT we use to have one there, and Carl couldn't enter the room without turning it on. The few times it would be used appropriately wouldn't be worth the millions of times it WOULDN'T be used approprpiately, lol! Getting it out of our room was a major victory for me!

We have 3- one in the family room, one in our BR and one in dd11's room. The reason she has one is her room is also used as our guest room. She rarely watches in her room by herself, though sometimes we let the kids all watch a movie in her room together. We have a cable pkg. (all of our TV's are OLD!!), but not a huge one.

We have one, and it's hooked up to SkyAngel television. I think I actually heard about it here. We get about 64 channels, over half of which are faith channels, and quite a few are Spanish. We get most of the Discovery Channel family of channels, Hallmark, and a few more like that. The kids like the qubo channel for cartoons, and I feel comfortable letting them watch it! That's a huge victory for us, and I'm so glad to not have to filter Nickeldeon type channels. Blech!

We don't have local channels, though. We could, if we'd get a digital box and hook it up to an antennae, but we just haven't done it. Any of those shows we want to watch we can watch on Netflix, and we keep talking about Hulu also though we haven't actually played it yet. Mostly the tv is for the kids, and for us to be able to watch movies as a couple or family when hubby is off work.

Since cutting off all the stupid channels and just going with this, my kids watch stuff like Mythbusters and some of the ones on Animal Planet... The Most Extreme. (My 10yo likes to memorize the lists of extreme animals. LOL) Anyway. I get a big kick out of my kids staring at educational tv programming most elementary school kids would scoff at. Thank the Lord we don't do the yellow sponge any more! YAY!

ANIMAL PLANET!!! You know what my Faythe did to G'ma? My mil knows I don't let the kids watch too much TV. So Faythe goes over there, and G'ma asks, "What are you watching?" "Animal Planet!" "Well, OK, but as soon as Animal Planet goes off, you need to turn off the TV!!!" And of course Faythe says "OK!". It wasn't until sometime after that my mil figured out that Animal Planet was a channel that was on 24 hours, rather than just one TV show, lol!!!

We used to only have basic channels and mostly watched PBS and used the DVD player. For over a year now we have had AT&T UVerse and I love it! We have 4 tvs but only the one in the living room and dd13's room have UVerse. The tv in my bedroom and in dd7's have no channels but you can watch videos or dvds. We never watch tv during the day, only at night.

2 TVs and 2 DVD players, but no cable. We get a handful of local stations with the antenna, but hardly ever watch it. DVD playing is the common usage of our TVs. If we want to watch a specific series we can watch it online.

we have tv in the living room and in our bedroom and the kids have a tv that I let them watch certain things on, like disney movies and video games for 2 hours on the weekend...
we have satellite because we live out in the country, but are SERIOUSLY considering getting rid of it...and we would in a heart beat if I could figure out a way to bring whole episodes of the good stuff into the home without it costing me an arm and a leg...We watch the history, discovery, planetgreen, etc etc...and they sell their programs, but they are expensive :(

We have one TV and a DVD player. Since things switched over to digital, we do not get any channels even with the converter box. We do get lots and lots of DVDs from the library. We especially enjoy not having the commercials on the DVDs. My husband and I blob for almost two hours in front of the TV every night. Our son, on the other hand, does not like watching TV.

We have way too many tvs here. I could do without them totally, but my husband would never agree to that. We also have too many computers, but I am not willing to give any of those up.

we have 5 tvs. Each bedroom and living room. Nothing wrong as long as you monitor them. Kids hear as much in walmart.

We have 1, but like you we never got the digital box thing. It took me awhile to realize that we didn't get anything on there anymore! We watch movies sometimes, but I recently unplugged it because it was becoming a problem with dd. I don't miss it.
