We are avid MUS users, but I know many people here like Teaching Textbooks. I bet you will get some responses on it. How old is your dd and what about MUS didn't work for you? This info will help others fine tune how to help you out. There is so much available, I'm sure you will find the right fit! :)

I forget the grade level you are at, but I can't say enough good things about Teaching Textbooks! They should have grade 3 out soon.

My DD is in 2nd she did great with MUS last year, this year she just struggled with concepts we spend about 3 weeks per lesson and she still didn't understand it :( The manipulatives tended to be more of a distraction than a help. So I started printing worksheets to review concepts in different formats, she is still a very visual learner.

I will definitely have to check out teaching textbooks

If she is going into 3rd, then she may be able to do TT4, they are a bit slow in my opinion... but even with the slow/behind feeling I get from them, and the few typos it is the best math I have looked at, and I have had in my hands at one point or another almost all of the major math curriculums (Singapore, Saxon, MUS, Math Mamouth, Key to, Life of Fred, etc).

I just played with module and I think this may be what she needs, she loves video games and is very hands. I printed the year 3 placement test and if she does well I will try the year 4. Then to talk to Hubby :)

It's pricey, but you can usually find it used.. but they hold their resale value so sometimes you aren't saving much.. but then again you can sell it for alot.. esp if you don't write in the workbook ;)

Price usually isn't a huge deal because I know we can always resell or find it used :p I am just looking for something that will suit her, she is very bright she just needs the right tools to harness it :D

Just a word of caution about TT. It is real easy for kids to use, but at high school level I have found it to be too easy for kids who are good at math and hope to score high on ACT / SAT and American Math Contest. I switched my 2nd son to it for Algebra 1, 2 and Geometry and am now regretting it as he sailed through it with close to 100% - but did not do well when he took standardized tests. I have now switched him and my younger kids to Life of Fred which is far more thorough. LOF is not a full curriculum till you get to high school though, and until then I would highly recommend Singapore Math.
That said - if you are looking for an easy math course, TT is great and I did love how all the problems were worked out in detail. My son had no complaints at all (specially as he aced all the tests) - but I realized from his test scores he hadn't been taught to really understand the math.

Singapore is great and will give a great foundation in math. We used the primary series and dd transitioned easily to algebra.

Another great curriculum to try (and it is free!) is MEP:

There is also a yahoo group for help implementing it.

If you have a kid that wants to do well on the AMC tests, go to www.artofproblemsolving.com . I can not say enough good things about their textbooks and classes. My daughter loves their stuff. The best math kids in the country congregate on that site and their books are the best prep around for math contests (and really awesome high school math in general).

My older son is using Art of Problem Solving's Number Theory at present - he is just using the book but a friend's son is doing the online class and is loving it. Definitely the place for kids who are strong at math to hang out ... mine are not math genuises, but AMC has been good for them.

I can't tell you how much CLE has been a help this year. Alexis (in 4th) is now moving through new concepts - GETTING THEM - and moving on. We did multiplication with 2 digits yesterday 48 x 6 with the whole carrying thing - she caught on quick and was able to move through her own lesson without me.

I'm curious about the 8th grade+ though..... I like the layout (lesson per day)....but I haven't talked to people beyond elementary levels...

We use CLE as well, after MUS didn't work for my son. It isn't manipulative based like MUS, and is spiral in approach.

Has anyone else used TT through high school...I was definitely planning on going with them for next year (8th) pre algebra. We are almost done with the saxon book and I was thinking of buying it and just starting at the end of this year.
My main thing is I need the help. I can't just intuitively answer his questions anymore. (math not being my strong suit) but he is doing well with math...I don't want it to be too easy.
