Hello, I am a SAHM of 4, 3 are in school, 5th 4th and kinder. The youngest is 2. I am fixing to take my 5th grader out of school, and start homeschooling him. The 4th grader wants to stay, and so does the only girl, who is in Kinder.

I am aprehensive to say the least. But, our school is divided up into 5 differnt schools, and 5-6th grades are the worst school by far. I am tired of the bullys, the lack of structure (other than prison-type stucture), and the basic lack of help, my kid totes a 37lb backpack all day because he is scared to be late to class, he fights almost daily in the bathrooms or backhalls, and has gotten lunch detention because his shirt was untucked in the back after running across campus with his PE class because they were late for lunch.

I try to keep up with what my kids do, and we have access to the gradebooks online, I get daily emails telling me what wasnt turned in, done etc. EVERY day there are dozens of items. When I write the teachers I get told "I've been too busy to get them in the computer, I dont have time" yet progress reports come along and they send home notes telling me my son needs MY help, that I should work with him more, that he is on the verge of failing. Its time and again. Not to mention the fact that my kids are gone 11 hours a day. They ride the bus to and from school, getting on around 10 after 6 and getting home after 5:15. (they get up at 5:30 and go to bed at 8) Then we have homework, there are hundreds of other reasons too. Uniforms, admin that turns a blind eye, lack of communication, him coming home having UNlearned everything I've ever taught him about being a good citizen, the lack of hometraining the other kids have. I am very active in the PTA, and various other activities, so this change will be hard on all of us. And thats another reason why I dont understand their lack of communication. They can snag me at anytime, I look them in the eye and ask if he is being bad in class, or not doing his work. THey just honestly DONT CARE. Its all a paycheck.

My youngest 2 dont want to quit school, One will next year, when he hits the 5th, thats when uniforms and everything else starts. The girl is really enjoying it, but even she is coming home with things that I honestly have worked VERY hard to shelter them from. I do fiqure once Brett the oldest quits going they will follow suit quickly.

Anyway, I will be asking ALOT of questions, as I am a VERY dense person. (natural Blonde, with 4 kids, I didnt have alot of braincells and that I had are GONE now... ) LOL I hope y'all will help me a little, point me in the right directions and not get to agervated with me.

OH and I CAN NOT spell. Honest. I cant spell CAT if you spot me the C and T. :) so just bear with me. I am not a dumb person, I just never mastered spelling. Most other things I can cipher quite well ;-)

We live in South East Texas- Jasper to be exact, or the outskirts of. We raise gardens, hogs, rabbits, chickens, and heathens. We also have horses and I am fairly certain the kids still have all the wild things they catch and I wont allow them to bring inside.

yours sounds like a fun family and we don't care if you can't spell! Every one of us has been a first time hs, so we understand that you've got lots of questions. Ask away. Welcome to the spot.

You know what? I think you'll do GREAT. You sound like you know what is best for your family. I think it'll work out fine.

Don't sweat the spelling. I spent some time whining on here a year or two ago about how we study (ahem, sort of ) French 'cause that's what my DH wants, I don't really have a good argument against, but I'm clueless and he won't take over. Guess what? The kids are picking up French in spite of both of us LOL. You'll do great. Just hang in there and speak up when you have something to ask (I do!).

(P.S., We're also in TX - about an hour south of Dallas, an hour north of Waco)

Hello and welcome! We love to help newbies - ask away!

I'm also in TX, currently south of Austin outside of San Marcos, but moving in about 6 weeks to the general Waco area.

Stick around - can't wait to get to know you!

Welcome aboard. I just wanted to say that there are great resources in here. Don't be afraid to ask questions, about anything. Come in here to vent, we all have. And be sure to check the archives on this site. They are loaded with tips. There is even a thread that lists a lot of useful, free websites that contain anything from curriculum to worksheets. The ladies here will be very helpful if you decide to buy curriculum for home use. They will be able to give you opinions on what has worked for them and why. Also, they can let you know ways to check out the curriculum before you buy, or where to get it used. Good luck, from your post I think you will do great.

Any one in here able to post the link to the thread containing all the free sites?????
