71% of Americans failed this civics test. The average score was 49% and the average score of college professors was 55%. How did you do?
I got 29 of 33 right, so 87.88%. yay! I thought some of the questions were opinion more than fact, especially when it came to economics. And I disagree that if taxes equaled spending then the amount of taxes each citizen paid would equal the amount the gov't spends on each citizen. That's not taking into account that some people pay more taxes, and some people pay none, while at the same time some people benefit more from gov't spending, while others benefit less. Of course, if they'd had the phrase "on average" in that question, then I'd have been happier. But I think I did okay for a Canadian gal!
The one that really stumped me was the Puritan question, although I feel I should have known it. Did anyone get it right?
You answered 30 out of 33 correctly — 90.91 % I'm really surprised about this. I expected a C or worse. I've never taken a single civics class and DS isn't studying this type of thing yet. (just basic community civics). I guess I know more than I think I do.
You answered 18 out of 33 correctly — 54.55 % I was so bad. I got the puritan one wrong too btw. I dont recall seing that answer asan option though... Hey, Three or four that I answered wrong I though I had clicked that answer on thats weird. Also several of the others I was going back and forth with I knew Ihad chosen the wrong one of the two so I knew the right answers just chose the wrong ones Lol silly me! A couple I thought were too silly to be right but it sounded familiar, I would have been right! LOL
How annoying! The ones I missed were ones I'd narrowed it down to a 50-50 shot and guessed the wrong one of the pair. LOL I still came out at 76% which is pretty good since I never took a civics class and haven't seen American history since my freshman year of college [the kids are working through history chronologically, and we're in ancient Greece/Rome right now].
well I got a 57, BUT I don't consider that to be bad since I have Never had a Civics class and missed all but about 3 weeks of government in high school...my son is in the 7th grade so we haven't started teaching government or civics...The WONDERFUL thing about Homeschooling is I get to learn right along with my son...Thanks for posting the test, I enjoyed taking it even if I didn't do as well as most...but glad it gave me the opportunity to know where I stand in that subject
I got 18 right. Never took a government or civics class in my life, in fact somehow in moving schools, I never even learned about the Constitution or the names of all the presidents. I'm always learning.. right along side my kids
I scored a 69.7. Got 23 right. Not too terribly bad, but I could have done better. There were a couple that I thought may have had 2 answers so I just had to guess which one was 'more right'. The question about Plato and the others seemed completely out in left field to me... I really just guessed at that one and got it wrong. lol
pecangrove cheated! she peeked at my test. I got the same score! some of those I knew I'd get wrong and others surprised me. guess I've got some studying to do.
well I looked back over some of the ones I missed, and I do not agree with what they say are the correct answers. So I guess some of the 'right' answers are really opinion. Question 30 31 and 33 They don't seem right to me. I guess Obama has differing opinions on 30 as well I still think 31 is B and we are seeing that now in our economy. Many producers and specialist trades have moved to other countries, leaving our country in bad shape in the long term. ? anyone else have thoughts on the test answers you missed?
You answered 21 out of 33 correctly — 63.64 % Not as well as I'd hoped, but not surprising either. Never been my forte. I got the Puritan one right. Most of the ones I got wrong had to do with spending.
You answered 29 out of 33 correctly — 87.88 % That was interesting since I had to remember everything from jr. high and high school! I never took any classes on that stuff in college. I guess I didn't do too bad, but I agree that some of the answers are opinions and not fact.
hey Sommer me either, I dont think I had a civics class had one year of american history only too cause I grew up in Canada, so I guess I did O K lol
