I'm leaning to pulling my kids out this coming school year (8.5&10.5). I've been reading up on so many different curriculum. Is it really possible to get your High School Diploma with out going through a accredited program?

Welcome! I'm not sure what state you live in, so maybe they have a say in that. Here in IL, you don't have to go through an accredited program. Homeschools are considered the same as any other private school here. My son will be 9th grade next year. I am currently taking a look at the local high school's graduation requirements so that I have a guideline of what is appropriate. We will be keeping our own transcripts as well as making sure that we meet certain criteria--US and State constitution tests and such. Once he meets the criteria, I will issue him a diploma from our homeschool which will get the same consideration as from any other private school.

There are many people on this forum who create their own curriculum, too. I prefer to use something premade because I know my ambition lacks follow-through. So many people do it so many different ways, but most issue their own diplomas around my neck of the woods.

Brooke, I'm from IL also! I was told I could even draw up our own diploma. There are 3 other families that are HS from our church and our pastor w/ his wife take an active role in the children. I might have him check into it and put the "school" under the church.

    Hi Sandy,
We want to pull our daughter out next year too. Right now, we are trusting God to provide the financial means. In the mean time, I've been doing lots of research on curriculums and state laws. It does seem that most states provide for homeschool graduation/high school diploma. If not, your children can always take the GED.

I can be such a dork! I did see you post on another thread that you were in IL. So many new people on here lately--it's great!

I live in the tri-state area not far south of you. :D You should have tons of great resources available to you so close to the Quad Cities. I have some family in Geneseo, too. I get up that way every so often. PM me if you need more IL related info...not sure how much you want posted on the open forum.
