We've just started to homeschool and I've already been hearing all about the "lack" of socialization I will have for my daughter. While I know that's not the case it's still stings a little. But my daughters books don't arrive until Wednesday and we've already been to our first Homeschool Groups monthly zoo trip (last friday) and next week is the park/Discovery Science Center. We meet weekly where there are 20+ homeschoolers. It feels good that I don't have to ask my daughter what she learned in school today, I get to be there first hand to experience the learning process with her! Feeling very proud to Homeschool my daughter!!

Hey there. I was curious as to where in Texas you are? Also how old is your DD?

Oh to live where there were things like zoos and science centers...humph.

Sounds like you are already having a good time! Enjoy!

I love knowing exactly what my kids are learning! I also enjoy the field trips that our homeschool group puts on. We are heading to a Natural History Museum on Friday and my girls can hardly wait. I sometimes keep track of all the time my girls spend "socializing" to reassure myself and have always been pleasantly surprised. It is much easier than people think to get your kids out there and with other people.

I don't understand why people consider sitting silently next to other children for hours a day socialization...

Sounds like you are off to a great start with homeschooling. It is so nice to know exactly what your child is learning each day.

I do join the group that is jealous of the activities available to those of you in larger cities, even though I do like my smaller town most of the time ;)

And research suggests that children who are around adults all day have better social skills. If you think about it adults are better role models for appropriate social behavior anyway.

I PMed you. I think we live very close to each other. Might be worth trying to meet up at the zoo or something one day :)
