Ok, I am taking my time to figure out what to do for the next year or so of schooling. I am in no hurry to make a decision but i was just wondering because I haven't even looked at science before today. As a side note I think that I will choose MOH for history, and first language lessons, and CLE Math. We would be about 1-2 grade level. I was looking at Apologia Young Explorer books, and I know that a lot of you on here use that. I like it and it seems ok. Is it a young earth ? My pop in law teaches creation science type things and loves Answers in Genesis, but their God's design for Science seems kind of plain and boring text-bookish. But then again so does Apologia. I remember somebody posted a long time ago that they were excited that they could do science at the right time of the year. Like study plants in the spring instead of the middle of winter. etc Does anybody have an idea what that was ? Any off the beaten path ideas for science. I don't really get it and almost didn't graduate because of Chemistry so I need some help. I also have no time at all to do something on my own. But I know it can be fun and interesting if I get the right books. Thanks for reading and helping me.
Dare I say that you don't need to teach science at 1st/2nd grade? You can do hands-on experimentation (grow plants, grow critters) and do nature walks and read a few science books on topics they find interesting (animals, plants, rocks, whatever). That way you could easily stick with the seasons and keep science fun.
At grade 1-2 I like Sonlights approach. From what I understand Apologia is recomended for 3-4 th grade and up because there is so much information. This year in science 1 for Sonlight we have done animals and are now working on the human body. We have also done experiments with magnets and water. It is broken down in to small enough sections that dd really enjoys it. We do it as the last thing in our school day because she likes it the best.
