Like any other curriculum, it comes down to the personality and situation of each family and student. We have used ABeka in various ways through the years. It is an excellent curriculum that is Christ-centered, attractive to kids and parents, and very thorough in what it covers if used exclusively for an entire school career. However, it is expensive (but used materials are readily available), designed for a traditional classroom, time-consuming, and academically challenging. It is quite typical for students going TO ABeka from another curriculum or public school to have to drop down a grade level to survive, particularly in math.

    love abeka

We have used Abeka now for 5 years and we are loving it. My oldest daughter is in 10th grade and she using the DVD formats and she loves it. Yes, it is alot but wow she is doing so great. We are actually taking her down to visit the Pensacola College where Abeka is located at. She would like to go down to Pensacola College for her college years. She is very excited about going down to visit the college. She will be staying right on the campus while we will be at a Motel but we do get to go over and tour the college with her. I;m like Mama Bear LOVE ABEKA IT IS REALLY GREAT!

Abeka is an awesome curriculuim, I would have used it but it has too high a price for me. They are extreme teaching and do advanced work starting with K through whatever grade though.
    Just cost too much.

I guess with the cost being mentioned so often here as to why some of you don't use it brings me back to my question. A lot of you seem to recommend Sonlight but when I look at their website it seems to cost 9 hundred to a thousand dollars per year or am I not following the website right?

Sure sonlight can be expensive if you buy everything they tell you to buy. I think (but could be wrong) that those who use sonlight often just purchase the reading guides and such then get the books from the library instead of purchasing them from sonlight.

yeah, I skipped that one too, but also because of the binders being so overwhelming, when I started otu we used odds n ends but then went to AOP for first grade and Horizon Math. The reason being that they were cost efficient plus they have a super scope and sequence that you can see what to teach for every grade and how it all fits together. NO one else had that back then!
