I am just testing the waters to see who would be interested in participating in a Flat Stanley project for next school year around September. This is my first year so I am not well versed but we can get some ideas going. If you are interested chime in and we will go from there. My oldest will be in K so what is an appropriate Flat Stanley project. I'm guessing we could send a questionaire out like hows the wheather, how do you dress what are you learning this week and take a picture, then send it back. If you have Flat Stanley experience please help. LOL! Once we get a finalized idea and number of particpants we can set a definate start time.
We sent around a Flat Stanley Journal last year! It travelled through many people on this board. Druing the year we kept a map and would put marks on where he was. He finally made it back about a month or so ago.
We'd love to participate. Last year our guest (Flat Liam) got in on some venison/sausage making! It was fun!
Tuzor-- We sent our addresses via private message...not sure how they planned the list of participants, but we did have an address to send it to the next person. Peanutsweet -- It is a type of traveling journal based on the Flat Stanley book.
There are different ways to do the flats.. first thing to do is read the book or books (they are all really cute!), and make your flat. Then decide if you want to send a packet with your flat or if you want to created a file that can be filled out on the computer and emailed to you to save on postage. Also now, most everyone has digital cameras.. so if they want to share pics of your flat when they visit, they can also just email them so it too saves on postage. Also.. sometimes they go out and are sent from one person to another to another.. or they can be sent out and then sent home and the owner then would send it out to someone else. This second way is sometimes done as swaps (you host mine and I host yours and then when they come back you swap with someone new), but doesn't have to be. Really, Flats are just like everything about homeschooling.. the rules are flexable, and can change to become what you want at any time We are game for participating, I do still have to visit the book bins downstairs and get out our Flat Stanley books... but I'm sure Rylee and Reagan would LOVE to do it!
YES! I created a thread and explained what I was doing. I had each person interested send me a PM with their address and I created a Word File with all their addresses. I printed that with a map of the US from www.worksheetworks.com . We used a composition book (one that is ruled for 1st through 3rd Grade w/ the blue dotted line in the middle). We used the Flat Stanley from the book (the newer book comes with a premade Flat Stanley). I created a pocket for him to sit INSIDE the front cover of the book, and I taped an intro letter with instructions on what to do. I'd have to dig it out, but I'm certainly willing to send Flat Stanley off for another visit, if you'd like to visit with him and his journal! Just PM me your address.
Please pm me your addressess if you are interested. I will probably start a yahoo flat group since other people I know who are not apart of the spot want to participate. Include how you would like the flat's addressed. I will like my addressed to my son so he can experience recieving mail. Thanks more to come later. Planning!
I think it depends on what you are wanting to "get" out of it -- are you wanting just geography? Or are you wanting to see all the different experiences your Flat Stanley can have? For example, we live in a rural area -- so he would experience hunting, fishing, rodeo, and such ---- much different from the things someone in Dallas might take him along to do.
This sounds interesting! I wish we would have been around when ds was younger so we could participate in ideas like this!!
Personally I am using it for Geography but I think it will be more memorable for my son to see the pictures of what other people are doing with Stanley.
