For those that use this...I have a question. My oldest will be in 6th Grade next year. I have NOT been using this. I was wondering... Could I use book 4 and 5 in one year? Then do book 6 and A the following? Is trying to do two books in one year too ambitious? I think that the 4th/5th grade words she probably mostly knows...but I hate jumping in the middle of something and miss groundwork. Does that make sense? THANKS!!!
I think you can. I was going to use it next year, but I've decided to use Song School Latin instead. I have book 4 already, though. It looks like we could easily go through it in a semester rather than a year. We'll probably pick it up the year after next.
You could do two in one year, but you might not get the added reinforcement you would like. We started with 6 last year, an in addition to doing the activities (we are doing A this year), I had my son write out 3-4 words a day with their definitions, start the activities, then the following week, complete the activities and do a spelling test with those words (yes, we used it for vocab and spelling). Each lesson takes us 2 weeks as a result, but I feel like he really knows the words as a result, not just doing the work, you know? However, most of the books only have 14 or 15 lessons, so you could easily complete 2 in one year if you did one lesson a week. Just my $.02!! Good luck!
I'm going to use A next year for my oldest (7th grade next year). She uses Get A Clue for vocab (online thru HS Buyers Co-op) and loves it....just adding this for a bit extra....lol (and because it's portable when I need it to be versus a web-based program).
I really don't know why, but both of my kids HATED VFCR. And DD did it for like 4 years! Poor her, why did I torture her so baldy back then? (I tried out all the "Classical" stuff on her, she was my labrat.) DS did one year of VFCR and then asked to go back to Working with Words, so we did.
