My daughter is just beginning to wear contacts. She's used the trial pair and now I'm getting ready to order two boxes online when I see that the prescription they've written her has no power in the lenses. It would seem to me that with no power in the lenses, that this could not possibly be helping her vision. I asked and she said that it helps a little but not that much. Can anyone else with more experience explain to me what's going on? I plan to call the doctor's office later on today but want to make sure that I'm not losing it before I do. HELP! :?

I'd call your doctor. My prescription reads -5.5 for both eyes. Your daughters should be something similar. There is another number for the shape (I think). Mine's 8.3.

FWIW, when I've ordered lenses that way, the placed I ordered them from needed to confirm the scrip with the doctor's office. I agree, call, and then let the company selling the lenses double check, too.

When I spoke to them @ the doctor's office, she said that it was "pl" or "plano"...when I told her that didn't give that option she asked if there was 0.00. I told her that there was and then I saw that "plano" was the same as 0.00. I'm just not sure why I'm going to be paying $80 for contacts that have no strength in them.

I was thinking that maybe the "trial" ones were plain just to get her used to having a foreign object in her eyes...? and that the "real" ones would be different??

I don't get that either. Maybe the internet company can give you some insight? If not, maybe you need a second opinion.

I'm going by the actual prescription that I was given @ the doctor's office. I don't have the packaging from the trial pair of lenses because since it was her first time using them, she had to watch the DVD on how to put them in, take them out and take care of them. She had to be able to put them in and take one out before we left the store, so the package was thrown away there.

I talked to the doctor's office again and she said that it had to do with her astigmatism. She also said that the 0.00 was not the power but just the sphere. I'm almost positive that I asked her the first time if the sphere was the same as the power. Also, when I went back to the website where I place the order, it does say "Power" and I have to put "0.00" I'm still not convinced! I guess I'm just too skeptical when it comes to these things.

Can you order them directly through your optometrist? That way you can talk to some one face to face and make double sure you're getting the RIGHT contacts?

Something doesn't sound right. I agree, why would you put them in your eyes and pay $80 for something that isn't going to help her see better??? I'd go somewhere else and get another opinion. Sounds weird to me. WHY even give her a script if it doesn't have a power to it???
