I homeschool my Stepdaughter (8) and she has some grammar habits she picked up from people around her.

She will say "she don't _____" or "he don't ______."

She will also say "I don't got ______."

We've gone over the correct grammar in homeschool and I correct her when she says it but I've noticed that her dad and mom both use those forms of incorrect grammar (and a few others I can't think of right now) so it's becoming a habit.

    Any suggestions?

AHHHH... I don't have an answer for you, but was just thinking of you yesterday, wondering what happened to you!! How are you?

About the way she speaks... just keep modeling the proper way, when she "flubs up", have her restate the sentence properly... that's what we do, does it work like I wish.. nope, but we try..lol.

Whenever she makes an error she should correct herself/restate the sentence (without you making/reminding her). Give her a big smile when she does it. Point her error to her only if she doesn’t automatically make the correction.

You know how I broke my oldest DS out of that? I just ignored him. ( not in a mean way) When he asked for something using the wrong words. I didn't answered him and he would quickly correct his grammer.

Expose her to the correct way just as you are.. She'll eventually get it. It may take a while for her to realize why the way she is speaking is incorrect but she will eventually catch on...

Hi Crazymama! I'm still around, still homeschooling. I got laid off my job last July so I'm not sitting at a computer all day and consequently I'm not online much!

But I realized last week how much I miss my online buddies! So I'm going to take some "me" time and check my favorite sites...like this one!

    How are you?

Sucks that you got laid off :( But I'm really happy to hear you are still homeschooling. How are things going with her bio mom? Is she helping now or still kind of doing her own thing?

I'm good, sent my oldest back to public school in Feb, not sure if I will bring him back home or not. The mommy in me wants to, but the sane person in me says I can't handle being around him 24/7 (we just don't get along well.. and I'm not sure we ever will). I still have my littles at home and have started K with the 4 and 5 year olds.

Hope to see you around more often.. you definately need some "me" time :)
