I've not been doing this long but most days are great. DS gets up ready to learn. He gets all his work done by noon and then plays until I have to go to work. Not today. It has been a struggle to get him to do anything. He did his math worksheet and spellingcity then we read a story because that's all I could get him to do. Then he said he was tired and went and laid himself down and took a nap. He got up about a hour later. I tried to get him to do some writing but he just cried. Then he cried about everything I asked him to do including eat lunch. So I set a documentary up about Alaska for him to watch in his room. I think we are done for the day and hope tomorrow goes better. I really think he is not feeling good. His asthma is acting up a little today. We will try again tomorrow.
I don't know how old your son is but since he took a nap...young? Now just imagine him in ps having that kind of day....aren't you glad he's at home with you? And yes, you will have more bad days...days when you won't feel like doing school, you both won't feel like doing school, etc...but don't let them throw you....like you said you just try again tomorrow. well, if this is a bad day at your house sign me up for it. Nobody screamed or threw anything? A child did not purposely rip up a schoolbook? Sounds like he's feeling bad and it is great that you can be flexible and allow him to rest today.
Mine acts like that when he's coming down with a cold or didn't get enough sleep the night before. Sometimes he even acts like that if he's hungry or a little dehydrated. Physical conditions play a big role in how well a child will cooperate.
a kid that puts himself down for a nap? let the kid rest. sometimes they know what they need before we do. my problem continues to be that I don't always recognize that fact!
That doesn't sound too, too bad. Sounds like he was tired or not feeling well. Esp since you say he's always ready to learn. I agree, be glad on a day like today he wasn't in a public school setting. Poor thing probably was just having a bad day for some reason, we all have them, at least he was home with the person who loves him most for his bad day
Thanks for making me feel better. I felt bad that he didn't get his work done but didn't want to push it. I am very glad he could stay home and rest. He is only 7 and did spend most the day resting.
Sounds like he really was tired and needed some rest today, no worries, let him rest and see how he is tomorrow, if he is still tired give him a 'sick day"
I agree with the above. He sounds sick or just tired. Growing children need a lot of rest. Being homeschooled allows for this. Once in a while Ems gets severe cramps and she cries. On these days I allow her to put on educational movie or read a book while she cuddles with her blanket. A sick day every now and then will not hurt a thing.
I'm sorry that you had your first bad day, we do all have them. It really sounds like he wasn't feeling good. When my boys get like that very little gets done. Those are the days I remind myself that there is educational value to PBS shows
What everyone else said and now...you've had your first bad day! Aren't you glad you went ahead and got that out of the way?!
