I am searching for an actual SCHOOL type desk for our room. Anyone have any place they can recommend?
I have found them at second hand stores and school sales. Some schools around here have sales yearly to get rid of some old and get new and such.
You can find them online, thrift shops, yard sales, and call the school to see if they have any. We had one and Ems liked it at first. Once she stopped using it, I sold it. It was really cool but useless if it was going to collect dust.
I guess I should add we have also ditched ours. It started off as a great thing, then the great wore off fast. Now he uses my old computer desk. It has 3 levels. One top to hold his drawers, middle is work space, and bottom where we store a large bucket of crayons and such. Oh, also where he puts his feet up to relax.
You can try flea markets and auctions too, and I've seen them at a Used Office Furniture place. I've never paid more than $5 for one (I've only bought a couple). But several years ago, the elementary school here put a bunch of them out on the lawn when they were clearing out for new stuff. Ostensibly, they were to be taken to the school district warehouse (which you could try, too), but really they didn't care if they "took a walk and didn't come back". So a friend of mine loaded up about twenty, and gave them to me when we were starting up our little school. I really have more than I can use, so I'm going to sell some. For $5.
We purchased ours here: http://www.childrensdesks.com My dc love having desks. They asked for them last year. We used to use a large table, but that took up quite a bit of space and was hard for keeping one of the kids from allowing their stuff to overflow onto the person next to them LOL. My 3 year old uses a little tikes table for now, each of of my girls uses a school desk and I use two other school desks in our school room, one for the computer and one for our piano. We like having the desks for math and LA or crafts. edited to add if you have an Ikea near you they have some very cheap desks also.
I always buy stuff like that through craigslist. We ended up tossing ours though after a few months of non-use.
Well, I ended up ordering one from School Outfitters online. I bought an actual school desk and chair. It should last DD for years to come, and has a 10 year guarantee. I'm excited to get our room in order like I want it. All I need is another 10'X 10' added to it, and I'd be happy
Oh, and thanks, Twilight Mom. I did go to Ikea here. Didn't find what I needed for a desk, but I did get some great bins!!
