Does anyone us a good curric. for spelling and voc. (7th grade)? Or have a good way to come up with your own?

And, does anyone know anything about Science Detective or about the Christian Kids Explore Series?

For Core Subjects for my 7th grader I am looking at Math, English, Science, Health, History, and Bible. Am I missing anything or adding too much? I have bought whole curric. in the past and don't want to this coming year. So I don't want to miss anything.

    Thanks for your help,
    Ginger

I think this year (8th) we are going to use Vocabulary Vines...I think it will help with spelling also.

We combine a lot of history and bible...if not specifically biblical history...we often try to relate religious history to a Christian perspective. (easy during ancient and the reformation) I don't suppose it will be too tough during American history too.
But I haven't found a good bible curriculum.

I am familiar with Christian Kids Explore Series. My son did the biology and physics in that series. I very much enjoy the sciences and am familiar with what will be covered from K - 12. The Christian Kids Explore series is a little weak for 7th and 8th grade IMHO. The information is good just too little of it, and the experiments are easy to do at home. With all that said, I did use it for two years with very little supplimenting. It was just right for my son. To my great surprise, my son is ready for high school science. Mmmm, perhaps Christian Kids Explore series is not weak.

We used the Wordly Wise vocab curriculum once we got to 5th grade, and found it to be a fantastic program.

I also like Wordly Wise. Also, English from the Roots Up.

Christian Kids Explore didn't work for me, but that's just me. I wasn't expected to be getting all the stuff together, and wanted it all put together FOR me.

I haven't used Christian Kids Explore, however, BI Press sent me all 4 books to review. I liked them a lot. We did a thorough review with layout and lesson info here.

So, my opinion is based on reviewing all 4 books, not actually doing the curriculum. We are using Considering God's Creation next year, which looks wonderful. We reviewed that here and added sample pics.

I plan on using CKE the following year.

I like Spelling Power - it's quick and easy - you start working from whatever level they are at. I have both my kids on it and it's very cool - they only study the words they miss from the day's lesson.

We've used the R&S Bible for 5th and 6th grades, but we used them with a student who was in the 7th and 8th grades. We found them challenging, not at all too low-level for 7th/8th. The 5th/6th grades cover the OT, and the 7th and 8th cover the NT.

OR, the CLE Bible is good too. These resemble Lifepacs but not necessarily word-for-word. There are ten workbooks per level, or you can pick and choose according to content you want to cover. The 600 level (6th grade) is a complete Bible survey from Genesis through Revelation. The 700 level covers several different topics, including three units on the Life of Christ. The 800 level covers various topics including history of the early church and the book of Proverbs, understanding today's problems, and understanding parents. The 900s are a NT survey, with the book of Job, God's Will for my life, and sharing Christ with my friends.

Yep - and I found it used for $20 including shipping ;) It's just the book not the CD - but we do just fine with it!

So if I find the Spelling Power Orange Book used, is that all I need? What about the games? Do you use them?
