Forgive me if this topic was already covered. I just got a Sonlight catalog. I was wondering if anyone had experience with them and what you thought about it.

I forget if it is in the catalog or on the Sonlight website but...they tell you why you SHOULDN'T use Sonlight. How about that? We don't use Sonlight but...I do know that several of the stories we read are also "Sonlight readers".

We're finishing up the Kindergarten Sonlight right now and I've loved it! The kids love all the stories that we read and I like that the schedule is all set-up for you.

As someone mentioned, the catalog (and the website) has a list of reasons why someone might NOT want to use Sonlight and it's a good read. They're very practical in knowing that it's not right for everyone. However, if you purchase, they do have a return policy -- which a lot of other don't offer (12 Week "Love to Learn Guarantee).

Check out their website for more good articles:

Good luck....and remember, whatever you choose just make the most of it for your kids.

    :D

I might also add, we liked it better for our younger children, but not the older ones.
    We all loved the readers.

I love Sonlight's layout and the readers..

The downside for me is that I don't care for their lesson manuals.

There is a lot of flipping back and forth when you are trying to teach.

Again, though it is all what you get use to when you begin to homeschool.

I don't like things that are voluminous and bulky. I want my lesson manual streamline and homeschool friendly.

As far as content though they do put together a very rigorous Christian view curriculum with lots to do.

Be prepared to do a lot of reading outloud. For me, it just seemed with all the reading, it left the other subjects a little off balance. I mean by that. it is hard to get them all in when you are doing that many readers.

They also tell you though that you are the sole judge of determining that.
Their science kits are winners also.

Overall, compared to other curriculums they are very rigorous, it is just what you prefer.

    Hope that helps!
