Usually at this time of the year I am so excited to get new curriculum, plan the following year and get my kids started. We do year round but we take July off, so that is usually my month to prep for the following school year.

However, I have no, and I mean NO motivation. I am tired, I don't want to plan, I don't even want to think about school! In fact I hate to admit it, but we have sloughed off this last month and not gotten done even half of what I wanted to get done.

*sigh* I keep thinking if I just take a small break, or even a month off, then I will be motivated...it isn't happening. In fact, it has come to the point that I don't care any more. Please tell me that some of you have gone through the same thing. Tell me this is normal, because I have never felt this way for more than a week because usually after a week I can get right back on track and have more motivation than before.

Perhaps it is the pregnancy hormones, but I didn't feel this way with my last one. Perhaps it is the weather...I mean it is June and I think I have seen the sun twice since last September. Plus it is still in the 50's and 60's. Maybe I just need a real vacation away from our normal daily life.

I know how you feel, pregnancy hormones and all. :) I have days like that too, even though my kids aren't formally homeschooling yet (they're a little too young). I do babysit in my home though and there are days when I have ZERO energy/strength/stamina/motivation to get anything done.I hate feeling this way, but sometimes when I take a short break of "me" time and have DH take the kids, I do feel alot better. :)

When I was pregnant while homeschooling I ended up taking about 8 months off of school! I couldn't quite do that now because my kids are older, but if I were you I would take a couple months off. Don't even think of planning until you have had at least a month off of school.

I've been having the same problem-prego and homeschooling...and no motivation. And we do yearround-our break is supposed to be over tomorrow and I'm thinking..."maybe we'll just postpone..."

Instead, I've developed a VERY light summer schedule to accomodate my ichiness....

Seems like the kids are not too into it to-maybe there's a planet in retrograde or a star exploded or something....

No answers-but I feel your pain.

I have been there. I am there. This lack of motivation has been going on for a while, years. Partly it has been due to health and that is getting under control. Partly it is because my son is not enthusiatic about school. Largely it has to do with NO SUN. When the sun is shining I feel like everything is wonderful and I have a lot more energy.

The theory about a planet in retrograde or a ster exploded sounds good. That is the only thing that really makes sense :)

Take some time to yourself. You will be no good to yourself or your kids if you don't. I'm quite burned out...if I had to plan next year now...I'd go insane.

Thanks for the encouragment. I went to costco today and they have some curriculum in the books section so I picked up a US history and presidents book. It looks like fun and I think my kids will like it...so I bought it. That seemed to help a bit.

sue may-yes it does have something to do with the lack of sun in this area. I keep wondering why we are having winter weather in June...*sigh*. Sometimes I wish I could just pick up and move to a place that is sunny most of the year.

    Yeah that must be it.

Yep - I've been there recently!

I have so much other stuff going on I am tired of planning and getting and explaining.... but it's done. They've had time off.

Next week DH and I are going away while the kids are at camp for the FIRST TIME in 13 years without kids. Honestly I don't know how I should be reacting. In some ways I just want to stay home... but I know we will just stay super busy and this won't happen again until all the planets align backwards or something ;)
