I am enrolling in college online to get my AA and BA in Elementary Education/Special Ed. Anyway, I did my FAFSA and I am told by the school that I will find out more info. when I get my award letter. That is about 6-8 weeks after I start classes.

Question: I am told the FAFSA EFC # is a score, I've been told it is a $$ amount. Does anyone have experience with this?

    Please help!

Okay....I'm going based on my own experience, but EFC is Estimated Family Contribution I believe. With that number the college should be able to get a general idea of whether or not you'll be approved. I know that my college went ahead and enrolled me while waiting for the fafsa to go through my first semester based on my EFC. I do not know if it's a # or a $ amount.

When do your classes start? If it isn't until August then you SHOULD have an answer back on your FAFSA by then.

    Congratulations on going back! :D

Yahoo for a return to school!

You want the EFC to be as close to zero as possible. The closer to zero, the less out of pocket for you.

But it's not a sure thing. It's just an estimate based on your digital application. When someone actually looks at it, it may change.

They told me that my award letter wont be processed until I am an actual student which would be the first day that I log into class, 6/29. So I wont know for 6-8 weeks after I begin. That part makes me really nervous because I dont want to be stuck owing a bunch of money that I don't have the means to repay.

I did the FAFSA for 2010-2011 and my EFC was 99999. I went back in after is was process and I didnt see that they provided the decimal point on the income and I put it in as my dh making hundreds thousands of dollars. When I fixed it the # was 1738. Guess my glasses are a necessity, LOL. I've been having major eye strain and need glasses for the computer, they are on order.

Isnt there any place that I can visit on the Internet that will give me a better idea of what I am facing before I make a commitment without having all the detail?

I feel like they are asking me to buy a new car, drive it for two months THEN they will tell me how much it is. kwim?
Is this how all colleges do it?

I know how much their fees are and such but I would like to know if I am going to get any pell grants. Said I was elig. for up to $3500.00 but it would be nice to have ALL the info. before I say yes!

Wow. I have nothing useful to contribute, but I just had to say that after reading this my head is spinning with capital letters --AA BA FAFSA ETC --that alone would scare me away for going back to school!

Good luck and hooray for you! :)
