Does anyone know of a math program someone could use after taking their child out of school (they don't know exactly what he knows) that would test where the child is and move them along from there? Hopefully it would "know" when the child is ready to move on. Thanks...
You can use www.letsgolearn.com for the DOMA test ($20 or you can get it for $15 through HSBC). They also offer a similar math program after you've figured out what level you need. The test is wonderful. I haven't used the curriculum.
I've had my boys using aleks dot com to get them up-to-snuff on what they don't know. I don't recall how much it is, but they're making great progress.
DONT Pay for a thing! KHANACADEMY.org FREE its very comprehensive, it starts with the most basic arithmetic and takes you from 1+3, to advanced calculus. Totally free. You can watch a video for every lesson before you do it. If you sign up at the website for FREE, you can let your boys cover as many modules as they can and then you'll know where they are at. The system keeps track of their progress for you. (Each student will need their OWN account) and has a "knowledge map". You must earn a "streak" or 10 problems before the system lets you move on, but you can also try for a personal best. Please look into it. You can watch the Khan Academy videos on Youtube or just through his site. You must sign up to become a "student" and have access to the program, but its very comprehensive.
I don't know of an online program but definately Teaching Textbooks would be the program I would be looking at.. if they are in or below grade 3, then I would suggest McRuffy, they don't have a placement test, but in the early grades won't hurt to "repeat" anything the student may have gotten to.
