Hey all, We are going to be over at the redwood nat. forest in september and I was wondering if anyone has gone recently and had any ideas. If I can get a guided nature walk or something it can count for a school day. Plus what else do ya'll recomend for N. California. We are planning on heading south until our time runs out and shooting east toward home.
My in laws live in Nor Cal and they took my dd's here one year (I'm thinking it was 2 1/2 years ago) and my dd's are still talking about it. They have a Junior Ranger program there too, you have to take a class there to get the badge so make sure you ask first thing so you have time to take a class. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=551 This is where we are going in Aug. My dh's grandparents lived there and dh spent every summer there as a kid. Its Burney,CA...really pretty. http://www.burney-falls.com/ Can't go wrong panning for gold or seeing the caves. Here is a good day trip map: http://www.visitcalifornia.com/Trip-Ideas/Gold-Rush-Discovery-Day-Trip/ http://www.caverntours.com/sgmt.html
My favorite park in the region is Sequoiah National Park. I've not been to the Redwood National Forest, but I'm sure the nobility of the old trees will be immediately evident.
I second the Jr. Ranger Program, my kids do that at every National Park we visit, they love it. Fern Canyon is beautiful, if you like hiking I would strongly suggest this one.
