Hi everyone! I'm Missi and I'm an Army wife and SAHM of 4 girls (15, 5, 4, 10months). Yes, only girls at home (oldest daughter has moved on and the boy is living in the states with my father). We're currently stationed in Germany and loving it. My 15yo does attend the school on base, though this year (her sophmore year) she will be partially homeschooling for math and language (she's not able to keep up with the class pace... it takes her a little longer to master the concept) but will be taking the rest of her classes at the school. My 5yo will be homeschooling and we'll be doing preK (aka, when she's interested) for my 4yo. Obviously the 10month old will be starting pre-calculous and astro-physics in the fall. Anyway, just wanted to say hello.
Hi Missi, Welcome. Our youngest son is in the Army. He left Afghanistan yesterday and is in Kyrgyzstan waiting to leave for Germany before heading home. I also have a friend visiting Germany right now for her son's wedding. He is in the Army too. Glad you joined us. Beth
How does that work with the homeschooling in Germany? I assume because you are on base and the older child is "in school", and the littles are so young it isn't an issue...but I do know missionary and embassy families have difficulties with this. Is it a non issue on base?
Guten Tag! Welcome to the spot! My sister's husband is stationed in Germany right now too. You will find the spot to be an amazing resource of info and wonderful ladies (and gents).
Oh, GREAT!!! Several of us are doing geography this year and will be going continent by continent. I personally will be using "Around the World in 180 Days", though some are using different stuff. We're discussing the possibility of networking somehow. Perhaps your oldest would be willing to tell us what Germany is like when we get to Europe! I'm Jackie. My kids are dd16, dd14, and ds10.
Ohayo gozai-mass, we too are a military family but stationed in Japan. Are you on post or out in town. We living in military housing that is a least a hour away from the main base here. Welcome to the forum that people on here are great and helpful. Goodnsimple- As for homeschooling in other countries the military don't have to follow the countries rules. You can homeschool on any base anywheres. Now if you are civilian contracted I think it can be iffy but not sure on that issue. If you are non military I think you have to follow the countries rules on homeschooling.
