I thought I'd share this, in case anyone wants to use it this summer or use it in the fall. GoodTyping <-- This site offers a sequence of 27 free typing lessons. They start with the homerow key and go from there. I have a rising 3rd grader who asked to learn computer skills, so I signed her up here and told her to do 1 lesson, twice, each day for a week. Its not "kiddish" in that it doesn't have any fancy cartoon graphics or anything, but (so far) it seems to be a good, grounding in typing skills. It started her out on the homerow, next week (or when she passes with 3% or less errors) she can move on to lesson 2. It does NOT keep extensive records, but at the end of a lesson it tales you how many and what percent of mistakes you made. It will give you the keystrokes and words per minute that you typed in that lesson, but so far, I dont believe it KEEPS this record. Its just a simple little report, you have the option to go on to the next level if you want, but unless you got 3% or less errors, it recommends that you repeat the lesson. Just thought I'd share.
Thanks Gizzy! There is also Dance Mat Typing . My oldest used this a few years ago to learn how to type. She loved it...it's very kid friendly. I'm going to have her redo this year, and have my son do it as well. Also free, btw.
