I can say for a fact that kind of thing wouldn't fly at a school around here.

from what I understood, kids were bussed to it during school. some kids as young as 12 and most parents didn't realize what the kids were going off to listen to.

There weren't permission slips? Around here the parents would have a fit. As much as I dislike this school system I know this wouldn't happen here. The outcry would be too great.

oh yeah and that link to the form I posted is a legal document that requires school to send you a permission slip for or keep kids out of any activity you list on there.

Are you all aware that this meeting took place six years ago? Please understand...I believe we need to be diligent and aware, but this is NOT current news.

Becky, parents are NOT given the option. They are kept intentionally in the dark. And that "wonderful" 9th district court I believe was the one that ruled the parents had NO RIGHTS once a child entered the doors of the school. Here is a link for you about a book being read recently in a Massachusetts classroom. Chances are, it's being read in some of the classrooms in your district, too. Kids don't come home every day and tell their parents what book their teacher read to them. Especially if it's something they don't think their Mommy would like. They are afraid of "someone" getting in trouble, or they are confused about their parents saying one thing, and their "nice" teacher, who they have been taught to respect, saying something different. And note what happened to the parent who last year insisted in his child being able to opt out of homosexual teachings.

    Syele,
A friend of mine signed an exemption from sex education for her public high school son and had him attend a christian program for sex education instead. A teacher from the public high school gave an envelope to her son to take home that contained very graphic "sex education" materials which included written explanations and graphic illustrations of homosexual sex and how to perform it. This happened in the state of Oregon. She called the school and complained about the materials that were sent home in her sons possession and was told they were sent home with him for her to go over with him.

Ava, in the article Jackie linked to, a dad got arrested for refusing to leave the school grounds until they let his child opt out of the class.

I must live in a very nice place, because that stuff just doesn't get taught here. From what I remember when Kevin was still in school the worst they were ever going to present was proper use of a condom and that was in high school. I also remember permission slips.

Thanks Becky. You must live in a great place. Here, fourth graders were given graphic sexual materical including homosexual sex. That was the main reason my friend took her dd out of school. I just think this is terrible. I would get arrested if I showed my kids porno pics but the school system does it can it is called "education". I don't want my kids' minds to be cluttered with pics of graphic sex...hetero or homo. Once exposed....it remains in the mind and your kids have to deal with it. The whole thing just sickens me. It also disturbs me that schools have taken such control. I am not sure how much longer my family can afford for me to be home. So, this scares me. But I will surely do whatever is in my power to prevent my kids from going to school.

California is at the mercy of an idiot for a governor.

I think we always stand for what is right. However, be encouraged....the worse it gets the more like Sodom it gets...the closer our Lord is to returning.

Every time I have Ever thought that maybe it'd be good to send sami to school... reasons like finances and me bing single, I see more stuff that just reminds me why I chose to hs in the first place!

At a local Elmentary school here.. I went in early when I was teaching afterschool programs and overheard an assignment being given to 3rd graders... They were to practice their essay writing skills by typing an essay about weather they would change the gender of their fetus or not (naturally after they were grown) if technology allowed it. When the teacher asked for questions about the assignment I heard kids asking questions about what a fetus was and why it wasn't called a baby and the teacher went into a discussion about how it's not a baby till it's born. The whole thing made me feel sick. I just stood there in the hall and swore that would be the last time I questioned my decesion to HS. That is considered the 'Best" elementary school in our area. I told a friend who's kids go there what I overheard and she refused to believe me.

I attend a Southern Baptist Church. Last year, SB Convention passed a resolution that Christian parents should get their kids out of public schools. Today, a new resolution has been drafted to present before the 2006 convention that suggests that Churches be more active in offering Christian schooling alternatives. What better mission could a church have than to educate our children and help to get them away from these agendas? Our church of about 200 mbrs is considering opening a small co-op since we have several homeschooling parents already.

These are such wild, outlandish examples you have to consider the source. A thrid grade teacher that would ask such a thing of third graders clearly has a screw loose. I wonder how many parents took it up with the principal?

That book on gay marriage - I can't believe parents didn't cause an uproar. Here controversial books get voted on.

    Are these alternative schools?
