My dd is going to be in 2nd grade and last year was our first at homeschooling. I wanted to do some Bible this year and I was wondering if anybody recommends one curriculum over another.
    Thanks!

Positive Action for Christ is wonderful. They have a great elementary Bible Curriculum, very colorful and not boring at all!

I am going with BJU Bible Truths this year for 2nd grade. It is workbook based but dd loves workbooks. We are also going to do the Sonlight Bible but that will be more discussion.

Christian Light Education is good. In first and second grades, you only do it two or three days a week, and each story has an activity page with it but no quizzes or tests (those start in third grade).

Why not just use the Bible itself? Get a good outline and read it and talk about what is happening and what things mean.

I have been meaning to ask why would you want to dumb down the Bible for kids?

Just read it together or read it to her. Much of the OT is just like a story. It might take you...3-5 years (or more) to go through the OT together so your curriculum is covered.

You dont have to wait that long to tell her and talk about the stories in the bible, but you wouldnt read ABOUT a science book, or ABOUT chapter books or ABOUT a history book. you'd read a science book, a chapter book, and a history book. Why should you read ABOUT the bible and not the Bible itself?

    We use life pacs.
It has a section of vocabular words, a section where you look up scripture, and also requires some verses to be memorized.
also there is a question and answer section to show the child actually read the material and understood it.
A teachers guide is available to check the answers quickly.
It is made to use along w a Bible, not separately.

I am reluctant to use a curriculum but we listen to "hermie and friends" bible verse music. And we do read and discuss bible stories at home. Soon I would like to do some goal oriented scripture memory. I just worry that if it's too curriculum based, the kids may think their faith is meant to be just work, and not take it into the rest of life.

But if it works for your family to use a curriculum, I would pick one that has some scripture memory, and lots of application.

    :)

We just found Scripture Adventures and we both can't wait to start it! We are starting with the Old Testament. It is a download that you print off and put in a binder. There are bible verses, explanations of the verses, Q and A portions, all kind of activities and small hands-on projects, too. The graphics are all old looking sketches and paintings (Michelangelo is often used). It looks to be a very thorough curriculum, all scripture based and it is set up chronologically, too, which I really like. You should really check it out!
