I posted a while back about when would a child be learning to type in school. I had tried it with dd last year and she wasn't too interested in learning so we dropped it. Recently, I told her to give it another try and she is doing great. She knows how to hold her hands and can type slowly without looking. I think the program is now teaching her speed.

I am so excited! It will be so beneficial to her next year and years to come to already know how to type. Thanks everyone who encouraged us to keep trying.

If you are interested in checking out the pc program it is titled Garfield's Typing Pal.

Mine is an early 9. I think she was 8 when we first tried it. Part of the reason she says she didn't like it was her old computer would sometimes freeze up in the middle of games. So, she gave up easily. Anyway, my point is that I think a 6yo could do it if really motivated to do so. Avery didn't have motivation until recently so that is probably why she is doing so well with it.

I will check that out, thanks for sharing. I didn't learn typing until high school, I think. I know so many people who don't type. I think that is so weird. I wouldn't have the patience to sit at a keyboard if I didn't type at least 60 words a minute. I think that is actually pretty slow....I am not sure.

I learned in high school also. I can't imagine not typing correctly now. I know it will help our kids to learn to type early since we're in the world of computers now and not typing or writing. Everything is on the computer now so it just makes sense to learn to keyboard at an early age.

I will look this up. Sound great. Now days, with computers and so many options on computer (young children are blogging, now!) learning to type correctly in the beginning would be an advantage.
