Right now, I have a k-er and a 2nd grader. K: math (count to 100, read numerals through 100, write numerals through 100) reading: phonics. As far as we can get writing: learn correct formation of upper & lower case letters and numerals bible: listen to bible stories and discuss/color/do puzzles science - listen to a series of books, including History of Insects, Burgess Animal Book (current), Burgess Bird Book while reviewing images/sound files of animals (trips to the zoo work, too). Did a nature study class at a regional nature center. History - listen in on older brother's history, do mapwork/coloring 2nd: math - multiplication and division through 12 reading (literature) - read aloud from a series of literature selected by me; read silently from selections agreed on mutually (finished phonics last year) handwriting: spelling words, copy work, practicing correct formation of print letter spelling - McGuffey, grade 2 levels per OFE History: listen to /do activities from SOTW Vol 2; read from The Beginner's American History and narrate Science - anything I can get for him to do, in addition to doing all his brother's (K) science. The kid devours it, I can barely keep up. Worksheets, books, he has a microscope, he reads books. He chose Physics for Dummies when I gave him his choice of ANY book in a book store. Did a nature study class at a regional nature center. French - currently working through a French primer - just vocabulary, no direct grammar. We also watch movies with the French sound track instead of English. Music: working on basic piano and recorder skills. Slow progress, but steady progress. All my children must suffer music appreciation while I listen to my Pandora channels - my NY Phil channel, world musics, etc. Art - working through a series of basic drawing/sketching lessons. He is almost finished a book on drawing classic Disney cartoons. We also work from What to Draw and How to Draw it. (The kindergartener likes this, too. Very accessible) For 1st last year, we did something like this: math - addition and subtraction facts through 20 (this was tough for my son, but owrth it, He's had a MUCH easier time with multilplication and division. reading - finished phonics, read from McGuffey Readers for the remainder of the year. History - SOTW Vol 1 spelling - McGuffey Speller per OFE grade 1 handwriting - basic formation of letter and numbers, writing his name, address, phone, bible verses. Writing was VERY difficult for my son last year - he only really started writing words without grief about the middle of first grade Music - started piano 1/2 way through. Listened to stories about composers and recordings handcrafts - lots of building with lincoln logs and tinker toys. This was a fantastic learning experience for my son - learning to read plans and even adapt when we didn't have certain pieces. I look forward to being able to bring this back. French - we did The Easy French, but I found it was a lot of prep work and decided to wait until the other boys were old enough to benefit from the time I put in getting things ready. Plus, then they can play the games together. Science - we read through the Among the <whatever> Folks (meadow, forest, pond). These are wonderful books. We were supposed to continue with them through this year, but my son finished them all last year. We also gardened A LOT. We also fit things in. When we're in Houston, we try to hit Discovery Green for their family yoga class (it wasn't on last time we were there), and the boys take taekwondo with their dad.

I really got out of the routine the last couple of months. Parks are not so great around here, our new city, so its been hard to get the kids motivated. I'm gonna try a few ideas from the forum (Like "Chicken Fat" and Wii dance games), and jump ropes. Plus I'm having my husband make a tether ball for the back yard.
2nd grade: Reading Comprehension English Latin Spelling Handwriting Creative writing Math Science Geography (term 1) History (terms 2 & 3) Art Music Bible Health
We always do Bible, Reading, Grammar, Math, Science, and History/Geography. What each student is doing in each area might be vastly different, however. For English, I might have one student doing CLE with grammar, penmanship, spelling, and composition all in one, while another might be doing R&S English with separate penmanship and spelling. Spelling is usually a separate grade on my report cards even if done in an all-in-one. I usually include a grade for conduct/work habits and one for Language Arts Enhancement (which might include Daily Grams, or little one-page stories with questions such as Spectrum, or a page from a Critical Thinking book, or .... ). If they're seventh grade and above, they get to go volunteer several hours one day a month at the church's Food Pantry, and get a grade and hours under Service Learning. I don't usually put a grade for penmanship on the report card, even if we do a separate program such as Pentime. I plan to include some extra reading/discussion this year, too, without grading. I'll have a second grader and an older student with learning issues who can both use some extra reading/comprehension, so I have picked out a couple of Abeka primary level readers that we'll read aloud together taking turns and then discuss - without grading anything. We'll probably do that a couple of times or so a week. Oh, I almost forgot - "art" this year will include Draw Write Now, but we'll probably include crafts projects here and there as well.

For 1st grade this year we are doing: Phonics & Lang. arts ( reading, writing, reading comprehension, some light grammar) Handwriting Math Science Geography History Critical thinking and Logic Activities Also Art and music are interwoven with a lot of the other subjects, but I'm sure we will do some Art an music activities separately. I dont currently have much of a plan for a PE curriculum, but between sports with our home school group, dance, wii and our yoga DVD's (and i'm considering maybe signing them up for martial arts) I think we will have no shortage of physical activity. I kind of want to do some french with them as well, but might wait till next year, so we dont feel overwhelmed.. or might just do some easy activities to get a feel for if we want to ( or have time to) do more.
