Ok, I'm writing this Bible study on trusting God. What are some common reasons people have for not trusting God? What makes it so hard for you to trust the Lord?
*They can't see Him. *They know what they want and by trusting Him, they may not be able to have what they want. *If they trust and follow Him, then they may have to give up stuff, like music, drugs, friends, etc. *Hyopcrite Christians. *Pride *I can do it all by myself (Pride) *Some think it's shows weakness. May think of more, but these are off the top of my head.
Maybe they haven't seen trust modeled by others they look to for a lead. Maybe they think God is so big and all, He can't possibly be concerned with my little need. Maybe they just don't think to ask Him. Maybe they ask half-heartedly or inconsistently. Maybe they don't live with an attitude of gratitude. Maybe they're not in the habit of looking for the many ways God takes care of them, provides for them, every day.
Some people lose trust in God when they lose a loved one or face a tragedy in life. "What kind of God would let something like __________ happen?"
ok. Now what about Christian people....why do so many of us hold back from whole-heartedly trusting what God wants for us?
*Maybe because they want what they want, NOW, and don't want to wait. *PRIDE, PRIDE, and again PRIDE *Maybe they think they know what is best *Maybe they see the here and now and forget He knows the future *And like Lindina stated, "Maybe they're not in the habit of looking for the many ways God takes care of them, provides for them, every day." *Maybe they think they only need Him for the "Big Things" and forget that He cares about the "Small Things," too.
Does anyone hold back for fear that God would ask you to do something difficult that you really don't want to do? Or just overall fear of losing control? (as if any of us are REALLY in control anyway.)
I know I have and have been told by others that they have too. I think another things is we get so caught up in the business of daily life spending time with our Lord is put on the bottom of the list. Are you going to share this study w/us when you are through?
Suffering in this world has already been mentioned as one reason. Injustice of man to man. Some claim lack of evidence that there is a God like our God. Many, many other "gods" to choose from! Post-modernity, "New Age,"-- we, ourselves, are god. Some find seeming contradictions in the Bible and say it cannot be true. Those might be some more of the reasons a non-believer would give. As a believer, lack of trust for me is quite probably present in direct proportion to the amount of lack of understanding of God's nature that I have. I seek to understand HIM, and His WAYS, and His NATURE, and the more I do, the more it is that fear and lack of trust are dispelled. I am wrestling with this issue right now; so I hope you share your insights on this topic soon! ps. Delayed or seemingly unanswered prayer might fall into this category for a Christian.
An other reason for nonbelief is because, "How could a God of love, let something like floods that kill hundreds, or the 2001 bombing, or, or, or happen?" And as far as the believer, "Why did He let my child die, or spouse, or, or, or?" Anger at God stands in the way.
I think all the above reasons stated. But also perhaps another reason would be a failing to agree with the way the minister, pastor, preacher etc puts the word of GOD forward. Sometimes they let their personal feelings cloud their teaching/sermons and it can dissuade believers enough to seek out other answers.
