One of my friends just found out that her Senior dd has to HS this year for US History and Science (Biology, I think.) It has to be accredited. I don't think mom or dd really cares how or what they use as long as it is accrdited. Money would be an issue if it were an opition but at this point she has to decide something and fast. Can you ladies and man help me help her? Thank you so much.

This website offers accredited highschool courses online. The link is on the right of the page in he purple area. I haven't looked into that part too much, but I bought a package from them and I really like it. Worth checking out.

What about dual credit at a community college. What's the actual situation? Does homeschool really mean HOME school? Abeka also has accredited work, but unless they've changed it, I think you have to sign up for the whole sha-bang, not just 2 courses.

Texas Tech University's Accredited Homeschool option. She can start anytime and she can take one class at a time. http://www.depts.ttu.edu/uc/k-12/supplemental/

For other programs, you should make sure which accreditation agency is acceptable. Just because a homeschool program states they are accredited, doesn't mean their accreditation will be accepted.

I think what is happening is she is going to one school in the morning (trade school, sort of) and then her regular school doesn't offer the Science and History that she needs in the afternoon so they told mom, you got to HS her for those if she wants to graduate this year and then offered no help. I think your are right about Abeka.

I would definitely check out your local community college. The credit works differently. Often one semester of college equals one year of HS, so she might be able to take it in the spring if it's too late for this fall. At our CC students must be 16 to take classes. I think it's worth looking into!

Personallly, I think the school is giving her a bunch of BS. The school MUST provide for her, and if they can't, they MUST pay for her to attend somewhere that CAN. And if that's at a college, then they pay for her tuition in that class. Or at least, that's my understanding! My information could be wrong or outdated, or the school could be just trying to get out of paying for the class theirselves.
