I found a bunch of lifepac sets for sale on my local craigslist. The lady said she forgot about them after her kids went back to PS. So she was willing to sell 2nd-4th grade sets (LA, science, and history and geography) for $10 total! She said they were unused and they just never worked for her kids. She lived 45 miles south of me but today I was in her area so I swung by and picked up the books. It was HUGE box full and I was super excited. I handed her $10 and left. When I got home ALL the workbooks were completely written in and had her handwritting in them with corrections and everything! It's not worth it to call her and tell her she lied when she told me they were unused...not worth the gas to take them back either. But now I can't use them. I guess I just learned a lesson in checking everything before I buy it. Grrrrrrr!!!
I would call her, too. You won't get your money back, and you'll have to trash the crud she left you with....but she needs to know that folks just can't get away with that stuff. Rude. Low class. Totally. sorry.
Yep I would call her for sure... that is a crappy thing to do. I don't know if she felt she could scam someone to get some $$ or if she really didn't look, but either way it's just WRONG!
Wow. I'm sitting here with my mouth open trying to comprehend how someone could do that to someone else. Shameful.
Can you white it out? I have bought lifepacs off ebay (knowing there was some writing) and what I wasnt able to erase I used white out. I would give her a call, maybe she gave you the wrong box.
That's how I'd approach it. I'd call and say, "I'm sorry to bother you, but you gave me the wrong box. These worktexts are completely written in and the ones I purchased from you were brand new." Then don't say another word. Let her fumble her way through an explanation. But at least that way you're not being confrontational.
Perhaps she made an honest mistake. If so, she will refund your money. At least you can hope it is an honest mistake.
Wow, thats really sad if she SCAMMED you on purpose. First, PRINT the CL ad as proof of evidence. Then call her and say "Hi, there must've been a mistake. I purchased NEW books, so I must have gotten the wrong box. ALL of these are used." see what she says.
Thanks ladies. I will call her tomorrow and let her know. If she wants to refund my money then she can, otherwise it's a lesson learned for me. I hope she just gave me the wrong box. I can't imagine that she would actually try to scam someone.
I emailed her and let her know. She was so sorry and didn't realize what she had given me. She said she must have tossed the box of unused books in the trash and given me the box of used ones. We tried to find a time to meet so she could refund my money, but it didn't work out. It was ony $10 and I don't give out my address to strangers, so she couldn't mail my money back. I figure at least I know it was an honest mistake.
