A while back we were talking about how many of us were doing World Geography this year. Well, we've started a World Geography Web Page. There's really nothing there yet, but you can find it at www.freewebs.com/homeschoolglobetrotters We're starting with Africa. If any of you want to assign your kids a country to research in Africa, do any projects or cook any African recipes, if you know any missionaries there who might like to tell about their country.... Whatever!!! Please let me know, and we'll figure how to let you post stuff. You might have to e-mail it to Rachael, and then she can post it for you, I'm not sure! Anything you send, especially pictures of your kids, just include the first name and last initial, and perhaps your state. We don't want to give too much information out!
We're doing Around the World in 180 Days, so we might participate with you. We aren't getting started just yet, so we'll be a bit behind you, but we will start in Africa!
I was thinking that if each kid reported on a DIFFERENT country in Africa, and we could post all their reports. Faythe says she's going to do Niger, and Phillip isn't decided yet.
That didn't take long... Here's what I got: Egypt- dd6 (I picked her's, because it goes with her first FIAR book.) Malawi-dd9 Madagascar-dd12 South Africa-ds14 It will be a couple of more weeks before we officially start.
GREAT! Phillip was looking at Egypt, and Rachael convinced him to do with something "different". I'm glad she did, because it would probably be much more appropriate for your little one! Whatever you want them to do (length, etc.) is up to you. Oh, but that reminds me! We do know some people that spent a year in Madagascar on a missions team! Maybe I can get in touch with them! No hurry! Just let me know whenever you have something to post!
Albanyaloe on this board is from South Africa - she has little time, and isn't on here very often, but....
ABSOLUTELY! Ages don't matter. Do whatever you feel is appropriate for your children. Are you interested in them looking up a specific country in Africa?
My sister just got back from Ghana, West Africa a few months ago after spending 2 1/2 years there as a missionary through ABWE. I'll talk to her and see what she can provide!
They were soo excited to do this! We broke out maps of Africa today, and looked at a bunch of countries. Mine decided to do two different countries. One picked Libya, and the other picked Zambia. We looked up flags, population etc.. and have a list of things we want to explore about each country. Thanks for suggesting this, it is going to be fun!
MamaKittyCat, I just came from www.enchantedlearning.com They have lots as far as flags, etc., that are more geared for younger elementary kids. They probably have maps/flags/worksheets on both those countries, though it might be in the Members Only section. Actually, it's one of the few sites that I'm willing to pay for.
Thanks Jackie! I went looking for somethings online today and then we just ran to the library and got what we could find there. I'll check that site out though!
We now have a page for North/Central America. Someone asked for it. I also met a lovely Egyptian couple this weekend. They attend a Coptic church in the area, and said they'd love to post something about Egypt. She said she'd give me some Egyptian recipes to post, too!
Jackie, We are starting in Greenland, ds decided that was where he wanted to start out.. so we are going to travel there ( cyber travel) in September. more to follow!
