You didn't think I was talking about you guys did ya?? LOL. I'm talking about 100 EZ LESSONS.. My daughter completed it this morning!!! We are SO excited. I gave her the kindergarten diploma today(printed from donnayoung.com) when she finished and took lots of pics with the two of them. She will be donating the book to the library this afternoon. So,as 100 EZ lessons graces the shelves amongst millions of other books, We will be on to bigger and BETTER things. YAY daughter, You did it!! (whispering to self) "yay me.. I MADE YOU.. He He."

Congratulations!! Finishing Kindergarten is a major achievement around here too. :)

Just out of curiosity, how well is she reading? I seriously considered 100 EZ Lessons, but chose The Reading Lesson at the last minute.

I liked the book. It was scripted and I knew exactly what to tell her. I did add some things to help her remember what letter combinations made which sounds but other than that we followed the script in the book.

Daughter, on the other hand, wasn't a huge fan of the book. She was ok with the first portion of the lesson, which was an introduction of a sound or a new "sight" word along with a list of words that would be in the story that was on the next page. Once we turned the page she would whine a little bit over having to read it. The book suggests to read it twice. The first time is sounded out. The next time is "fast" Or sounded out in their head. We did both for a while until i felt she was ok with just reading it "fast". And at that point we changed it to read it one time. Later in the book they added in some short narration. My daughter would read a few sentances and then in the script they had questions to ask at differant points to make sure they understood what they were reading. We did that for awhile but then we switched to waiting until she was finished reading the story. At that point I would ask her what she read and she would tell me.

All in all it wasn't that bad if you can get past the whining. LOL. I would recommend it to anyone with the advice of "make it fit for your child".

I understand that 100EZ and TRL are both great books, but my students preferred TRL, hands down. 100EZ looks intimidating to a young child. For myself, I didn't like the obtrusive and extensive use of such an odd orthography.

TRL utilizes some orthography but there's is much, much lighter, less obtrusive and is toned down and the student is weaned off the extra symbols gradually.

TRL is based on 100EZ, the authors will tell you that, so 100EZ is definitely a great book, but TRL, I feel, is a better one.

    Just my $0.02.

Never heard of TRL until now. Sounds good though. Wish I would've know about it so I could compare the two. Oh well, we are finished with that phase now bring on the next. :)

Our dd1 did the same last night and completed it!! she had about 6-12 month break when she got to lesson 57, but went back about 3 weeks ago and wised through it doing on some days 3 lessons! complete shock horror for the child who does not need to read (her words!)

Yeah! I have been using Phonics Pathways although sometimes it feels like overkill. The sad part is it takes us about three years to get through it and my children are all two to three years apart. I will probably burn that book when my youngest finishes it. :) O.k. maybe not but boy will I celebrate somehow.
