And I'm PANICKING!!! Last week I received a school district calendar and notices and such for my oldest daughter - who's never, ever set foot in a public school. Yesterday, I received a postcard in the mail with her bus assignments. Um...don't need busses when you're homeschooling. Sigh. I wanted to clear this up today so I could go into my weekend with peace - and the homeschooling liaison is not in the office today! WAAAAHHHH. I hate this.
I have no idea how they would have gotten your address. That sounds like a packet of stuff just to send out randomly.... Definitely weird!
I remember a few years ago I had received something from the school district (my kids were in PS at the time) and they wanted to know of any kids in the neighborhood that would be Kindergarten school aged and it specifically asked about kids other than mine. I didn't think much of it, and didn't write anything down because there were none that I knew of. Now as a homeschooling mother I would be upset that someone would turn my kids name into the school district. Maybe something like that was sent around in your neighborhood?
I am a Substitute Teacher for two school districts. The school is merely trying to look homeschool friendly. They want you to utilize their services so they are providing information to make them seem more accessible. They be jumpin' in your windows and snatching your kids up, so lock your doors and windows so they can't kidnap your kids in the middle of the night and force them into public school. LOL JK! (((( )))) Don't worry me dear!~
I get stuff like that every august. It seems like it is more of a general mailing, though I know for a fact that my neighbors without children don't get them. The weirder thing for me was when I started getting stuff like that from our neighboring school district. We live 3 streets from the other district so I wondered if it was just a mix up or something.
I receive information from the school district, also. It is possible that they have obtained information from the immunization database.
I sent in my notice of intent right after my son's last day of school. I received the "approval letter" in June. I got a bus assignment and my son was assigned to a teacher. One of my friends said the teacher had a desk set up for him and he was still listed as being in her class. They finally called today and asked if he was attending the school. Really, don't they talk to each other?
You know what Krista, we sent our affidavit in the middle of the month. We knew we would be getting his bus assignments and things because it was after that stuff goes out here. Well, today I get a call from the school.. they started Monday, anyway the lady says "Hi, this is **** from ******* Middle School, I'm just calling because Garrett hasn't been in school and we started on Monday." I said I know he hasn't, we are homeschooling him this year. She says "Well we have it in the computer that he returned from homeschooling Feb. 11th". I told her yes he did return then but we filed our affidavit and are homeschooling him this year. She got all tounge tied and transfered me to the admin offices, where I spoke to a nice lady who was simply a bit behind on paperwork and did have it in her stack... but let me tell you I was prepared to fight to the death.. I grabbed out my copy of the affidavit and the receipt from sending the stupid thing certified mail (and costing me a fortune!), but she said all was well and she would be sending me my paper stating that they got it right away...lol.
Do you have to file yearly intent? Could they not have gotten it? Could be lost in a stack of paperwork (just cause they GET it, doesn't mean it's 'in the system'.... I wouldn't worry-I'd just get any paperwork you might need ready and be prepared to resend it in-It's probably nothing.
We got a class assignment last week from a district we moved away from over a year ago! They also sent me all the paperwork for homeschooling the next day. Apparently they really didn't know what to do with my family. I just called and left a message that we don't live in the district any longer.
Yes. We do have to file a yearly letter of intent. I HAND DELIVER mine because my district is notorious for losing things. I am surprised I get my portfolio back every year. Of course, we have A LOT OF HOMESCHOOLERS in the district. The funny thing is I'm NOT getting anything for my son - who according to where they've placed my daughter (wrong grade and everything!) - would attend the same school. I'm wondering if maybe her affidavit got stuck to the back of his and they never fished out all the paperwork. I have the receipt that says I filed it. I also have copies of it. So this is truly, and should be hopefully, a non-issue. Not to mention, I'm an HSLDA Member, so I know I'm covered. Doesn't make it any less frightening.
