    most kid things close.

All of the pools on our side of town are closed, none of them do a toddler/preschool/homeschool day.

    That irks my tater.

Is it the same where you are?

YES!!! It drives me CRAZY! Especailly because school starts at the beginning of August here and august is the best time to swim. bBut all the pools close during the week once school starts.

I can understand why, though. They have to make money, and most kids aren't going to be around to generate regular revenue. It would be bad business for them to stay open when they only get a handful of people per day.

There was a bounce house place in a nearby town that tried setting themselves up so that they would open specially for groups that requested it [had to be at least 5 kids to open]. But they ended up having to shut down.

I wish that places like the amusement parks and such could and would stay open even when schools go back, but I can genuinely appreciate the financial burden that would put on them to do so.

Going to try it when ds is in band, they hve lap swims and excercise class for me, then after school time regular kids classes, as in non preschoolers.. they did have preschool classes in Wa state! I hate that here in CA where its SUNNY ALL YEAR we close pools

Maybe there are hotels in the area that would charge you a small fee to swim in the winter? Usually not as many guests stay after school starts anyway, and they may not mind during off hours.

Yes it's the same here for public pools, but since all our public pools are on school property they have to close once school starts. We do have a few places that stay open even once school starts up, but not too many, like a PP said it's not good business practice to stay open if all the children are back in school. Thankfully our complex has a pool we can use year round (though it's not heated so it's COLD in the winter).

Yes, I'm in Ohio and I'm annoyed too. This week is really hot. It's still August! It's supposed to be hot. I was hoping we could swim this week until I realized the the swimming lake and all the public pools closed on August 22, several days BEFORE school started.

Yep, Same here. We have a splash pad in the park that my younger ones liked to play in. We looked forward to having it all to ourselves last year like we did the year before. But they closed it!! I was so aggrivated. It's open this year until next monday (labor Day). So we have a little longer. We also have the college indoor pool but it's not open for public until evening.

It happened while we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach actually. No more life guards at the beach - which stunk because the big kids weren't allowed in the water unless there was a life guard there or us....

Then certain attractions were shut down during the day.... for US it wasn't a big deal - but we noticed it

Yes, very annoying! Not only that, but the city's activities (like Parks & Rec) only have classes for after school hours, into the evening. I think they should add a few choices for during the day so homeschoolers can participate.

I think if they just offered one or two sessions for grade school kids to start with they would see the 'untapped' market we are.

LOL glad I'm not the only one. Apparently some of the YMCA's will sell day passes but they are on the other side of town. The public pools closed down the 15th and the two main park areas closed down the first two weeks of school except the weekends.

Luckily I mentioned it to a friend who told me her condo place had a pool. We just made it a playdate. I'm probably going to have to give in and get a Y membership.

Agreed, ours really didn't offer any for preschool aged children. Many parents (at least on my side of town) can't afford preschool and it's a recommended but isn't required so there are tons of kids home during the day or at a sitters house.

There may be some stuff I am unaware of here, but for some reason we don't experience too much of that! There are lots of homeschool families around here and our county offers classes to homeschoolers, jumpy places stay open all year, and our neighborhood pool is still open. We go to the pool a lot right now and usually we are the only ones there. I have enjoyed the last few weeks with everyone back to school.

Some things yes. The city pool, but other pools usually don't close until labor day (I don't know why-it's hot enough to go swimming well after labor day here in GA) But we have a rather large homeschool community so like Pump it up stays open and has a homeschool day monthly, and skating rinks, etc....

I wish ours were open longer than labor day, even in OH it's hot enough to stay open.

Today I found one of the local centers is offering swim lessons for preschoolers for $55 so it's not that bad.

I wish we lived closer to the larger town near us. We are about 20 miles away in our little tiny town. They have an awesome YMCA, plus an awesome private health club for State Farm employees that's only $60 a month for non-members. We looked into both as they offer swim lessons, family swim, basket ball courts etc. But I know we wouldn't get the use out of it. It would be to easy to say, NAH I don't want to drive in today.

he reason here for them closing is the people who work at them are wither high school or college students. SO, the pools close because they lose their employees
