Are there any good workbooks, online programs or worksheet sites that you would suggest to cover . . . . Weather/seasons, Habitats, animal classification (fish, birds), Human body, plants/seeds, Oceans (life, currents), matter (solid, liquid, gas), space, continents (countries/capitals) etc. I'm trying to get some ideas together so I can plan Grade 1 for my son next year (Australia - School year from January 2011) Thanks in Advance
www.edhelper.com and www.schoolexpress.com have little units on various topics. Both these have some free stuff and some stuff you have to pay a year's subscription to get. Schoolexpress has a free unit they'll email to you each week on various topics - the one for this week is Frogs. Edhelper's stuff is marked with "levels", like grade 1-3, or grade 4-6 or 5-7 or whatever.
Some of these have printables, most are online activites only, and some have crafts or experiments using household items. *Not Free* www.enchantedlearning.com http://www.brainpopjr.com/ http://www.iknowthat.com/com *Free* http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/ http://www.kidsknowit.com/ http://sqooltools.com/edvideos/ (look toward the bottom) http://www.havefunteaching.com/ http://www.lessonpathways.com/ http://geology.com/ http://www.exploratorium.edu/ronh/solar_system/ http://www.windows2universe.org/ http://www.amnh.org/ology/?channel=astronomy# http://www.kidsastronomy.com/solar_system.htm http://www.unmuseum.org/exjet.htm http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/index.html http://www.starsatnight.org/sch_grp_shows/resource_guides/animalopolis_teacherguide.pdf (This is based on a dome theater movie, but it's very adaptable.) http://msnucleus.org/membership/guide/storybooks.html (Love, love, LOVE this site!) http://www.scholastic.com/magicschoolbus/simplescience/archive/labs/rain.htm http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/htbw_main_page.html http://academickids.com/ http://christiananswers.net/kids/home.html (some Christian, some secular, lots of cool stuff if you dig around)
Well, I have found things like the Body book which is fantastic. The garden game is fantastic as well it teaches your kids seed to even compost. They also have the Forest game which will teach your child about the food chain and more. Gardening for kids has a bunch of games like that
It's late tonight, but I will check on what I have saved up and see if I have anything different. I'll be back on tomorrow to post it if I find something.
There is a site that is a "free" exchange of curriculum. You will need to become a member. Then you have to post something you are willing to give away (free) to another member. This qualifies you to request any curriculum you are needing. The postage will have to be worked out between you and the other person. It is usually the person to receive the curriculum will pay the postage. http://curriculumshare.com/index.php This is set up to help HS families that do without curriculum because of the cost. Sort of a pay it forward or pass it on thing. Hope it helps.
For science we are using R.E.A.L Science for kids (Pandia Press). For social studies we are using Christian Light Education (CLE) 1.
