DD has discovered pbskids and sesame street for games. So now she wants to spend all day on the computer. I was thinking of making a chart for her and after she completes each task gets a sticker worth of 5 minutes of computer time.

Anyone do anything similar to this? Did you have success?

we use tons of sticker charts, and rewards here. We have a handwriting chart for every 100 stickers they get a prize, we have a tracking chart for flash card practice and reading that once filled will be redeemed for a prize. I also give 'tickets' worth 30 min of computer or wii time for completing work in a timely fashion.

My oldest LOVES sticker charts! I don't want this to seem like I'm saying it's a negitive b/c it's not- He's easily pleased by the simplest things and if he gets to pick out his own stickers and place them on his chart then he's in heaven! lol. Sticker charts are a great way to do things :)

Oh good! I'm doing preschool this year and I thought it would be an easy way for her to see her progress as well as me keeping track of her as well.

Neither one of mine have ever responded well to stickers or sticker charts. I don't get it, I'm 33 and I still get excited over stickers! LOL

We've set up a system of 'behavior bucks' where every dollar = a penny. We got some play money at the dollar store and we velcro'd some each child an envelope to the side of our cabinet in the classroom. If I catch them being good, they get money, if they're bad I take money away. We've been doing this for about 3 weeks and my 6 year old responds GREAT to this, and the 3 year old responds to it well too, but just not as much as the 6 year old-once he gets the concept of money a bit more, I think he'll respond a bit better...but it's working!

I love the velcro idea, maybe I'll go to the library and make some gold stars and put velcro on the back so they can just velcro straight onto the cart. Then just use stickers as rewards.

Even the big kids like stickers! A while back I had a group that was mostly 14 year olds, and I'd put a sticker on papers that were really good - and if I forgot, they'd ask me (in that 14yo man-voice) "Where's my sticker??" or "Don't I get a sticker for that??" So even if they won't acknowledge it, they like getting a sticker! It's like a stamp of approval.

More recently, I've used sticker charts (that I made myself) to record progress. I've made a little one that has five spaces across (days of the week) and four down (weeks in the month), and if they complete every assignment given that day, I put a sticker in the little box. At the end of the week, if they have five stickers, they get a prize. OR, for every sticker they do have, their name goes in a drawing. The more stickers you have, the more times your name goes in for this week. I'll draw one less time than I have kids in the drawing (kind of like musical chairs, one less than kids). Three kids in = draw twice (blind draw). And award that many prizes. Sometimes the luck of the draw is that a kid with only one name in gets picked. My prizes have been like 50c for a snack, 15 minutes free time, 15 minutes computer time, a Mercy card (can be exchanged for one written assignment), or stuff like that. I have a "treasure chest" from Oriental Trading hiding under my desk that I may bring out this year...
