on religions and see how you stack up with the rest of the country on knowledge of info about your own and other religions -- even if you're agnostic or atheist, because all were included in the survey http://features.pewforum.org/quiz/us-religious-knowledge/ I got 100%. Then after you're done, read this link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_rel_r...DeW5fdG9wX3N0b3JpZXMEc2xrA3N1cnZleWFtZXJpYw-- If you read the article first, you'll find answers in it, so do the quiz first.
It must be very popular since the page has so much trouble loading. I got to question 3 and it gets overloaded. I will keep trying. It seems like an interesting quiz. And since I know I got the first 3 right...my ego is peaked...uh...I mean interest..LOL.
Very interesting. It did take a long time to complete because the survey kept timing out. I only missed one; the last one on the First Great Awakening I could only vaguely recall. About half of the questions asked I remembered learning in High School. The others I learned from my own spiritual education. I will say, though, that I probably remembered most of the questions because I have always been interested in religion. I could see how the majority of people in the world would not know the answers. So many today could care less about God or religion.
According to a recent poll, atheists and agnostics know most about their faith. Jews and Mormons know more about their faiths than Catholics and Protestants know about theirs. Mind you, this can't be as bad as the state of Christianity immediately before the Reformation. If I remember correctly, very few church leaders could quote the Lord's Prayer, most didn't know where to find it, and a majority didn't even know who first said it.
What does this mean? What faith is there for agnostics and atheists to "know about"? (Not trying to being rude... just genuinely curious what this actually means! )
Ooh. I just posted a response, including a link to the results, but was presented with a message telling me it must be moderated before it can appear at these forums. Odd. About terminology: I agree with Pew Research that atheism is as much a faith as any other. Indeed, it takes a lot of faith to accept its fundamental tenets. PS - Let me try to post the link again. Here it is. And here's the quote: Overall, atheists and agnostics posted the highest scores, with an average of 21 correct answers in the 32-question test. Jews and Mormons each averaged 20 correct answers. Protestants and Catholics finished in the bottom with 16 and 15 correct answers, respectively.
I was thinking the same thing. I guess I don't consider them has having a faith, because there is no 'faith' of a higher power involved, IMO.
I still only got to question 6...I know I got all those right. I took another quiz but it only 5 questions an I got all those. The site with the 15 question quiz is slammed! Everyone everywhere is talking about it so I am certain that is why it's having trouble. In fact it's not up right now.
I'm not sure this is exactly what the poll found. I believe that this was referring to overall religious knowledge. The 32 questions covered The article doesn't mention anything about questions relating to atheists or agnostics, although I suppose there could have been. Here is what the article said: Associated Press Article The article did mention how much specific religions know about their own beliefs but I am pretty sure what you are referring to was the entire 32 questionnaire. The gist I got from the article is that those that claim to be religious know far less than those that are not.
I didn't have any problems getting to the poll from the link I posted... ??? It pops right into the poll immediately. Hmmm Could it be that those who have made the decision NOT to espouse a particular faith - and therefore call themselves atheist or agnostic - have studied up on lots of different faiths in order to either defend themselves from those who confront them, or have been searching through the catalog (so to speak) and haven't found what they consider "the Truth" - and therefore call themselves atheist or agnostic? And that's why they scored better on the "quiz"?
Well, I tried again and it was fine! It keep saying before there were technical difficulties so maybe they were corrected. Anyway, I missed one...but I don't know which one...there were two I was uncertain of so I'm certain it was one of those..lol.
Too bad we didn't all take the quiz before they put the stats together...seems we are all doing awesome!
I got 14/15. I missed the one about reading the Bible in public school as literature. I almost answered it right but changed my mind.
I'm thinking that is the one I missed. I didn't see how to tell which one I missed...but I am sure it was this one.
I also got 14/15 right...woohoo...I missed the one about the Great Awakening...I had it narrowed down and chose the wrong one...not too shabby
