Okay, I've been looking at this site for eons, it seems like, and this year I bought the subscription because I wanted to create some units like geography. So I printed out a bunch (or saved to print out later), and I'm finding grammatical errors, such as using let's (contraction for let us) when lets (verb meaning allows) was needed. There are errors in the text, such as when the N on North and Northern is missing, or there's no space between two words. On one sheet, there's a small color map of the world, but it's flipped left/right! I did find that the info acknowledges 5 oceans rather than 4, but it states that Australia is the only island continent - when it's patently obvious if you look at a globe that Antarctica is completely surrounded by the Southern Ocean, and is therefore an island continent. Am I being too picky here? There are tons of resources at that site, and I've just begun to scratch the surface, but ... shouldn't I expect accuracy in something I've paid a subscription to?
I would certainly expect accuracy in something being sold as educational. Is there a way you can send them some comments and alert them to the problem? Sounds like they need to do a better job editing before they post.
I got the subscription about a year and 1/2 ago, but I never used it either. I wanted some stuff to go with my Astronomy book, but once I got into it, I wasn't impressed. The Apologia book turned out to be all I really needed anyway.
If you do contact them you may want to mention that you post on a forum and that they will lose business if the word is out that they are an inferior educational site.
The About edhelper.com section of the site notes, “edHelper was created by a team of teachers who have edhelped (!) in its development.” [sic ] It is certainly not wrong to expect accuracy from teachers. You could--and IMO should--write an e-mail noting the errors you have found, expressing your disappointment, and asking for a refund.
I have used edHelper for a couple of years now and haven't noticed any errors. I guess I will have to look a bit more closely! I have noticed tons of errors on Enchanted Learning and won't be renewing my subscription to that website.
I have emailed them about what I've found so far, but haven't heard anything back (yet). I'm disappointed to hear about Enchanted Learning, because I was going to go there next. So far, it looks like School Express is error-free (I bought the subscription this year too), and they have little units you can print out and tons of activities to do with them IN ADDITION to the activities in the units (criss-cross, fallen letters, unscramble the words, mazes, coloring pictures, tons of stuff). If you sign up with them, each week (during the day Sundays) they'll send you a newsletter with a link to a FREE unit (at random, their choice), which usually sell for $2 each if you don't buy the subscription. And they have like a bazillion (well, maybe more like 15,000) free worksheets to print out.
