...Juvenile Fiction type for ages 10-14ish... For the country of Mexico. I was considering Esparanza Rising, maybe? We'll be finishing up our Geography of US this week and next, and moving into Mexico for two weeks. I'd like my oldest to read a book regarding Mexico. I've thought about the "Jess" book from American Girl (which I already own). But I think her reading level is beyond Jess...I'll let her read that for "fun" but... I want something she can read a chapter or two a day...get some good vocabulary words out of it....some good life lessons....and if it has information about life in Mexico...all the better.... THOUGHTS???
You might try Gary Soto, a Mexican-American author whose books my former PS 6th students enjoyed reading. The Skirt might work, though it isn't set in Mexico. You should skim the book beforehand, but it should be suitable.
the girls read "Bless me Ultima" they didn't like it, but they read it. That was for ps, so I didn't read it.
