Hi everyone! I am new to the board and to homeschooling! I have 3 boys, 5, 8, and 9 (soon to be 10). My youngest two are still in public school and my oldest is at home this year. He was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4 and we just felt that public school just wasn't the place for him anymore. There are a few private schools in my area that specialize in LD's but they are very expensive. After lots of prayer and a few freak out moments, my husband and I decided to home school him. It is going soooo much better than I thought it would and I really enjoy teaching him! I cannot believe how much time I have missed with him since he has been in school and am now considering homeschooling all 3! Anyway, I am glad to be here and welcome any ideas or suggestions any of you have about curriculum or teaching a special needs child. Thanks!
hey welcome from another Texan. I'm actually just about an hour or so west of you! I'm so glad to hear things are going so well. The people on this forum are so helpful, I'm sure you'll get lots of good ideas.
Hi, Mrs Vinet! We're also in the area (we're about an hour S of DFW). Isn't it funny how these things turn out? We started homeschooling for one set of reasons, but will continue just because of what we've learned about our family and children because of having them home. Welcome!
Welcome, from a West Texan in the state of VT. You have found a great place here and we are happy to have you.
It's funny, we don't get near as cold as the Vermonteers. I think it is because we are use to below 30 degrees along with the West TX winds of 50mph. Here it just get -30 but no wind. It makes a difference.
Welcome! I'm glad you found this community. You will find a number of incredibly helpful homeschool veterans on this forum. So use it often and don't be shy.
Hello from yet another Texan! This is a fantastic state to HS in...my dd has speech issues and our district actually sends a speech therapist to our house once a week....they said that she qualifies for the same amount of help at home as she would at school. You might want to see if your district has anything like that to offer!
Hi from another Texan! Both of my daughters are autistic. Our school district no longer offers speech therapy to people who aren't attending their schools, sadly. I wish they did! Homeschool has been great for both of my daughters, though, and we don't regret pulling them out one little bit. Welcome to Homeschool Spot!
