Our hamster, Gwen, keeps getting out, too. We've no idea where she goes, but if we leave her door open, she will come back. Her cage in on top of a rather good-sized bookcase, and we're not sure how she gets down. We think we've got the exit tight now to where she can't get out. She's about the fourth or fifth one we've had in about a two-year time. Actually, she's very good. We got her as a baby, and she's become quite accustomed to being handled.

ours was on top of a file cabinet I am not sure how he got out either. He was "Sonic" and each time we found him in the same spot with torn papers... look for torn papers around your house someplace and I bet you will find where she has been going!

See, that would creep me out knowing there's a little varmit roaming around the house freely! Jackie, have your kids ever been bit by a hamster? Do most of them tolerate holding them?

Once my sister had a crab in her aquarium. One morning (when I was probably 15 or 16) I was in the kitchen and when I went to walk out a thing came running out from under a table. I jumped thinking it was a spider. My sister looks over and says oh that is just my crab! She said it so matter of fact that I thought she had purposely let it run free, lol! She said it must have escaped and come all the way downstairs to the kitchen!

Faythe was bit once. She moved too quickly for the hamster...she can be a little overbearing! I don't know about MOST hamsters. Our first one was given to us by a friend; we were told that she allowed some holding. The others didn't particularly. Gwen was rather small when we first got her, so we just kept it up. She's use to it now, though she's like a mouse in that she'll crawl up to your shoulder if you let her. I'm afraid she'll get away, or try to jump out of our arms onto the floor and hurt herself! Also, our hamster cage has a tower that can be opened and shut. When she's up there, you can open the tower door and pet her without picking her up. But this is the door she can open by pushing against it; we have to put Duct Tape on it to keep it closed!

My brothers had a hamster once. I hated that thing he stunk and bit me. I left the cage door open and the cats had a nice lunch. They never could figure out how the cage door got open.
I love most animals except: rats and any kin folk, big dogs (pit bulls, chows, rotwallers sp?, lab, and any other breed of big dogs) spiders, and snakes (except king, grass, and black runners).

We have 3 guinea pigs. 2 boys: black velvet and Benny
1 girl: Kiara. Her brother is Black velvet and Benny is my 9/11 piggy. We built a cage ourselves after trying the storebought ones. Hubby has since called the cage the "Piggy condo" We got the idea after looking at cavycages.com. We didn't use coroplast for the bottom yet. right now we have what are called slip sheets. cardboard with wax coating on one side. (hubby drives truck and got them for free) Our condo is 3 stories tall. and the lower 2 levels are 2x4 cubes the top is only 1x4. We have it divided into 3 sections in order to keep piggy's seperated (don't want babies and not good for brother and sister to get together). We used 4" irrigation pipe for the tubes to the different levels with holes cut in for ventilation. We used outdoor carpet stuff for traction in the tubes. The piggy's just love it. All in all this was a lot cheaper than store bought. We keep the piggy's in the frontroom where everyone hangs out. And of course hold each piggy every day. We just had 2 babies that got new homes (they went to school) We just love our piggy's!

As soon as i find the silly cable for my cam i'll be able to download the pics from it. grrrrrrrrrrr i think my youngest went and hid the thing. last time he hid my mailbox key behind the books on the top shelf took me 2 months to find them. Only reason i found them is i got a wild idea to clean the book shelf. (he's almost 3) lol
