Hello, My name is Christine and I am the mom of 2 wonderful children!! Sara age 6 and Holden age 3. This is our 2nd year homeschooling, or schooling at home. We decided to try a cyber school last year and went with it again this year, why I am not sure because I am not completely satisifed with the curriculum for my daughter. I though maybe it was going to be better to continue with what we stared. So I am currently looking at other options for us.
I do know some homeschoolers "look down" on families that use a cyber school.. but I don't teach my daughter any less than I would using any other form of schooling at home and no one else teaches my daughter but me. We (my husband and I) thought it would be good to use a cyber school because they help with assessing progress and managing attendance and PA requirements. So I am here to hopefully gain some knowledge from the experience of others and share any knowledge I may have to share too. :D

    Welcome :)

PA laws are a bit scarey, and when I first started homeschooling my oldest I almost was scared into the cyber route. Then I carefully read the laws, found a site called www.askpauline.org and then weighed my reasons for homeschooling and well a cyber just seemed to keep many of the reasons I wanted to bring my son home in the picture so I bit the bullet and went my own route.. and by own route I mean own route. The only curriculum I bought that first year was a Comprehensive Curriculum book from Sams Club, everything else was what many refer to as living books (though I had no clue that that word even existed back then lol).

Anyway, Cybers can be a great option for many, but don't let the PA laws scare you into staying with it if you aren't really happy with it. Our laws are a lot of bark but not so much bite (esp when you get past all the legal crap they put in there to scare us, after all the schools get more money for each student they have).

lol CarolLynn..I almost had my hubby convinced to move to NJ during our vacation there this spring.. but then I realized I kind of like our laws.. I might do nothing at all if I didn't have to prove I did something.

Hey, I am new to the site.. Nice to meet you.. I appreciate your honesty about the cyber school.. I feel that as a homeschooler my family is different from every single family out there, what works for you is great but may not work for others.. Is there anything wrong with that no, personally, if anyone is too look down on you for choosing what's best for your family than they have the problem.. Keep doing what is right for your family.. Cyber school may be great now but who knows in a few months, year, it may not be.. and vice verse for me too.. Have a blessed weekend.. :)

Oh, I'm sure you would continue to do your best.

I personally am very glad for NJ's homeschool law. You, however, have it much better in PA when it comes to propertys taxes.
