Hi there, really glad to have found this forum. I've been homeschooling my three boys for 10 years...we are finishing up 9th, 7th and 5th grade right now. I've loved every moment of it, and I'm looking forward to sharing and learning with everyone here.
Hi, grace girl, and welcome to the Homeschool Spot! I have 4 kids (1 boy, 3 girls). They are 10, 7, 4 (5 next week), and 2. I'm finishing up my 2nd year of homeschooling.
Welcome, Grace! I'm Jackie in central Ohio. We're finishing up our 7th year. My girls are 10, almost 12, and then my little guy is 6. Am very interested in your expertise with older kids! Rachael's at the age where I need to start paying more attention to things. There's a definate change at this age in how things are done!
Welcome Grace! You found a wonderful spot to visit. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do. I can't wait to hear some wonderful ideas you do. Oh, HI my name is Kris from Texas and I have been homeschooling for 5 years now and I have two wonderful dd's who are 13 and 11 and we are getting in the high school years so I need a lot of help. So, jump in and give us some. What books do you all use? What is best for high school?
Oh, Grace! Especially higher level math! We've been going around on that subject, and many of us still are undecided! So any additional input would be great!
Well, if i may put in a recommendation, i think it would be wise to get your kids to start thinking about what their careers want to be. It might be a bit early, but going into High School, i think it would be especially nice to study subjects that would eventually benefit their career. I was never strong in Science, and dont plan on doing anything in the science field, so im most likely going to study the very basic stuff in Science. I would either like to go into Real Estate or be a business owner. So, im aiming for Business Math, Consumer Math, and probably a communications study.
Brad...that is great advice. My kids are 11 and 9. But I tell them all the time that the choices they make now can affect them in years to come. If they choose not to work hard in school and learn all that they can learn, the chances of being able choose a career that they have passion for is slim. But if they prepare themselves educationally and mentally they will have a better chance of doing what they love and have a passion for. (of course, we have no clue right now what that is!) It's nice to hear from a teenagers point...thanks for sharing!
Yup, its not a problem. One of the main reasons i wanted out of public was because all of the subjects that they where going to force me to take. I didnt think it to be much sense if i was going to be going into business or Real Estate, and i would still be taking Advance Chemistry or something like that.
