I was a member there before I joined here. Many times I felt the same way after reading posts. I am glad to be here.

I haven't a clue about any other board either. I'd like to know, though!

You REALLY have to take them with a grain of salt. They are the soccer moms of homeschool.

And yes - I do post over there but really it is mainly because I am a homeschool business owner and I feel it is necessary for networking. There are MANY "normal" homeschool moms there - they are just sometimes hard to find.

LOL! So I guess I did know what you were talking about all along. I rarely post, but I occasionally read.

I have to laugh, but I think about half the posters on this site sent a PM to me asking which forum I was talking about. Crazymama is right and you must have a well trained mind to figure it out. :)

I have struggled with many things I read online as well, and feeling inadequate. We have 3 older adoptees in various stages of learning English...and learning about life. These 3 will all graduate...if on schedule right now...at 20 years old. I find it disheartening to read that so many are homeschooling students who appear to be very advanced. We are homeschooling for survival! Yes, a couple of our kids are doing pretty well, but I don't have any Einstein's, we are not studying Latin, we aren't writing terrific poetry or first novels, we are not doing advanced calculus at 12 years old.

It has been nice to find this forum today and read about more normal families, and to discover there are many who are more like us, just trying to raise healthy, happy, responsible kids instead of attempting to churn out picture perfect examples of homeschooling genius'!!

    Cindy-

Truthfully, Brains means umm... less than one would think.
My uncle is the smartest person I know. If you EVER have a computer or technical problem, he's the go-to guy to fix it for you. He's a postal worker. My father is the second smartest. He has interesting insights on many subjects. He was a psych nurse, now he's retired, and he likes to target practice out his bathroom window . Neither one invented anything, and neither is rich.

Ps was super easy for me. I never really had to study, never had homework. Now... I have trouble with motivation. Not blaming ps, but I certainly never 'trained' myself to stick with anything I found hard. Perserverence isn't my strong point, by far. I'm doing awesome in College, great grades... haha I'll never be rich either because I want to WRITE... and unless I manage to publish the next Great American Novel well.. there's no love for the artists ;)

I have a VERY dear friend who is always telling me what a genius her dd is. IQ off the charts, etc etc. I don't see it.. her daughter acts like a kid her age. But it doesn't matter anyway... IQ means crap in the real world.

There is a lot to be said for tenacity, courage, and strength of spirit.

HAHAHA OK we do two to three math books a year but we do Singapore Math, you're supposed to do two. My son will finish three this year. But then my dauhgter just finished her preAlgebra after 1.5 years. He does eat math, will do it before I get out of bed then asks for more.
She HATES math. But has read all the books in the house and will write all sorts of stories, he runs and hides, literally, at reading time. He also hates Geography and will take his GEo workbook and put his math workbook inside the Geography book and do math. Sneaky little thing and he's home with me!!
I suppose he's one of the weird ones.) I love him anyway.
